What part of the country is this? Do you get any snow or winter conditions there? I learned to drive hauling logs in Northern BC. Since then I've hauled a lot of different commodities, but logging is always close to my heart.

That Jake reminds me of my gramps Paystar 5000, had a little 350 Cummins in it but you'd rattle windows a half mile away when you flicked the switch, I still don't hear so hot out of my right ear, lol. I here you about the Mack's though, loved the R model trucks, but mack went to hell in a hand basket when volvo bought em and the put out the Granite's, the boss gave me a brandy new one, drove it two days and traded him the keys for my old '97 R, you could dump a load on a side hill with one of the front tires two feet in the air with out flipping, the granite felt like she was gonna roll when you were getting loaded
@LoggerWade11 жыл бұрын
people say that the new trucks are getting cheaper built
@2009deerejohn11 жыл бұрын
I know the lighter a truck is the more you can hual but what are you gaining when a triaxle net weight isa few hundred pounds off the weight of the R model wheelers
@2009deerejohn11 жыл бұрын
Oops, I ment curb weight, they were in the shop all the time, they still have the '97 I drove 8 years ago

What do you guyz run for rear end gear ratios in your trucks?
@LoggerWade11 жыл бұрын
thanks for the compliment cooter. Well that's a loaded question, but I think that its cause everybody is hauling down the road farther now and the woods access is better. Macks always did good off road but they ride rough and don't get down the road very fast. In our experiences by the time you make a million miles on one the body is pretty much shook off the truck. but I still respect them though my first truck was a good ole R model...

@AyahuascaSage11 жыл бұрын
Wade Etienne Ah. What an interesting invention!
@LoggerWade11 жыл бұрын
Yeah what it does is cracks the exhaust valves open on the engine so the resistance of the motor turning acts as a driveline break to help hold the load back. It runs on a switch on the dash you just flick it on when you need it
@gary6369311 жыл бұрын
you should see ice road truckers, when they drive, they use the jake break when going downhill. it makes the engine slow down without having to use the brakes. very handy indeed

Diesel fuel and fresh cut wood are my two absolute favorite smells I have always wondered what it is like on a logging site because I've never been on one also I'm totally blind so I'll probably never get to find out unless I hitch a ride with someone but anyway I have quite a big fleet of toy trucks and most of them are 1/16 scale I have a logging truck with the crane I have a grapple loader and a mobile log splitter which I made myself I used an old antique 1930s toy flatbed that someone found for me and I rigged a log splitter to the top of it and it now it looks like it is part of the truck the set that had the log splitter in it had it as a standalone and the logs that came with that you can actually split them in half it's pretty neat also I apologize if certain parts of my speech get scattered sometimes because I have to use a dictation feature on the device that I use

Starting at 7:15 how does it work exactly with the jakes coming on inbetween shifts? Is there some magic to doing this like you did or is it just a natural occurrence when jakes are on still whilst upshifting?:)
@LoggerWade7 жыл бұрын
Jake Milligan the idea of jake shifting is to pull the motor down quick to get her stuck into another hole before the chassis slows down to slow
