Eccoci in Piazza della Signoria ed entriamo, accompagnati dalle parole di @andrebrilli , nella Loggia dei Lanzi, costruita tra il 1376 ed il 1382 da Simone Talenti e Benci di Cione. La Loggia, che inizialmente si chiamò "dei Priori" e poi "della Signoria", serviva per svolgerci le riunioni del Governo cittadino e per le cerimonie pubbliche. L'attuale nome le deriva dall'abbreviazione del termine Lanzichenecchi, ossia i soldati mercenari tedeschi che stavano di guardia qua sotto durante il ducato di Alessandro de'Medici. Nei secoli la Loggia è diventata un vero e proprio museo a cielo aperto dove spiccano due statue su tutte: il "Perseo" di Benvenuto Cellini (1550) e il "Ratto delle Sabine" del Giambologna (1583). Oltre all'altra statua del Giambologna ("Ercole e il centauro Nesso" -1599-) sono da ammirare le statue di epoca romana (II secolo d.C.) come il leone di destra all'ingresso e il gruppo marmoreo di "Polissena" di Pio Fedi (1865). Tra le varie curiosità di questo luogo i fori lasciati sul muro dagli archibugi dei Lanzichenecchi che qui si esercitavano a sparare e le tre teste umane (una donna, un uomo e un bimbo) alternate a quelle dei leoni; probabilmente i volti dell'autore dei suddetti leoni e della sua famiglia

Here we are in Piazza della Signoria and we enter, accompanied by the words of @andrebrilli, in the Loggia dei Lanzi, built between 1376 and 1382 by Simone Talenti and Benci di Cione. The Loggia, which was initially called "dei Priori" and then "della Signoria", was used to hold the meetings of the city government and for public ceremonies. The current name derives from the abbreviation of the term Lanzichenecchi, that is the German mercenary soldiers who stood guard below during the duchy of Alessandro de'Medici. Over the centuries the Loggia has become a real open-air museum where two statues stand out above all: the "Perseus" by Benvenuto Cellini (1550) and the "Rape of the Sabines" by Giambologna (1583). In addition to the other statue by Giambologna ("Hercules and the centaur Nessus" -1599-), there are statues from the Roman period (II century AD) such as the lion on the right at the entrance and the marble group of "Polissena" di Pio Faiths (1865). Among the various curiosities of this place are the holes left on the wall by the arquebuses of the Lanzichenecchi who practiced shooting here and the three human heads (a woman, a man and a child) alternating with those of the lions; probably the faces of the author of the aforementioned lions and his family
