I recently had the opportunity to film the process of a Cut-To-Length (CTL) logging project, featuring equipment from Murchie and Sons (TigerCat, Ponsse, John Deere, Kenworth)
Starting with the loading and transportation of lumber, as well as demonstrating the process of improving timber stands.
The improvement process involves selectively removing trees to help the landowner achieve their goals for the forest stand, with the primary aim being the production of high-quality lumber. This often requires thinning by cutting down young, non-merchantable trees to eliminate undesirable species. Thinning or improvement cuts help reduce the density of stands composed of merchantable trees.
The project also showcases the effort involved in managing forest roads to ensure that trucks can access the necessary areas for transporting lumber from the stands. we also demonstrate the process of harvesting a variety of trees with mechanical logging machines.
Thanks to the guys @Murchie & Sons I had a lot of fun filming these videos.
The next series will be at the sawmill.
