The best Review video of LOE I have found! I enjoyed it a lot Kayla. You have a great personality for this. We have what we need for Level A and will start it until First Grade. My boy is learning to read in Spanish now. I was super excited about LOE at first because I am very "particular" about Linguistics in Spanish, LOL! So that is how I learn, but my boy is more the Naturalist genius while pretty hiper and I have always struggled with him not focusing. We are going super slow in Spanish emphasizing cursive handwriting and syllables (not words very much yet), and in January will go full swing with words. I am a little nervous about all of the rules being too much for his short attention span. But he might surprise us. So we will take one Level and see.

Thank you so much! That is so sweet of you to say! Good luck with LOE and Spanish! That's all so exciting!

Great review. Do they have any songs or jingles to remember the rules?
@littlefootstepsbiglearning79283 жыл бұрын
Not songs or chants (that we have run across at least) but they have rules that you repeat like "ee double e always says e"

Do you ever review or use All About Reading & Spelling before you used Logic of English? If so, what was your pro's and con's? Would you still recommend Logic of English for those starting homeschool? If not, what would you recommend? I am torn between Logic of English and All About Reading/Spelling. Need help
@littlefootstepsbiglearning79283 жыл бұрын
I have not used All About Reading and Spelling. Currently I do not use Logic of English for our homeschool curriculum. I am now using The Good and the Beautiful. I still LOVE Logic of English and use some of it's foundational principles in what I teach my kids, but after a while, things weren't meshing for our family and we needed a change.

@@littlefootstepsbiglearning7928 Can you go into more detail about why you stopped using LOE?
@littlefootstepsbiglearning79282 жыл бұрын
@@christinebucher5401 Sure! No problem! I really wanted to love LOE and I know many families who really love it. Sometimes as homeschool moms, things just don't "fit" for one reason for another. Something wasn't working with our curriculum line up and I wasn't sure exactly what it was, so I decided to try some different curriculums and we found a rhythm that worked better for us. It really came down to time for me. LOE was taking up too much of our day and we were making our way through the books slower than I thought we should be. Although I do not use LOE anymore, I still speak very highly of it because I think it is a great quality curriculum that sets up a solid foundation for kids. Hope that helps!

This is the second person I've seen who reviewed LOE with an initial positive review say they ended up having to switch. The first person said they started encountering problems at level C and is therefore now using AAR.

im new to homeschool thanks for this review do you still love it
@littlefootstepsbiglearning79285 жыл бұрын
I do still love it! It definitely requires my one on one time with each kid (I spend about 15-20 mins with each kid each day), but I love the teaching approach. We have used it for 1 whole year and I purchased more of their curriculum to continue using it.

Do you find this to be a complete curriculum for language arts; enough for writing, or do you use something else?
@littlefootstepsbiglearning79282 жыл бұрын
I found I liked to supplement a little for writing. This worked well for me with handwriting, but not as much creative writing.

I've been thinking about LOE but unsure if it will be a good fit if I struggle with vowels pronunciation myself due to my Russian accent. Do you know if it is suitable for EEL parent?Thanks
@littlefootstepsbiglearning79285 жыл бұрын
Hey Natalya! Thanks for watching and thanks for your great question! Something I love about this curriculum is the Phonogram and Spelling Rule Quick Reference guide. (This comes with the set or you can buy it separate). It serves as a cheat sheet for me to make sure I am introducing the phonograms correctly. I use this guide all the time and it sounds like it would be a perfect resource for you! I can't think of a better curriculum to help someone with a different accent teach English words with an English accent. It really sets the foundation well, so yes, I think it would be a great fit! (There are some great Logic of English Facebook groups you could join that are really helpful if you get stuck on certain pronounciations.) Hope this helps! Let me know if I can help in any other way!

Thanks for your review and I'm looking into getting LOE. Taking letter A as example, it has 3 sounds, does LOE foundation explain the rules on which A sound will be used in a particular word? Is it covered in set A?
@littlefootstepsbiglearning79284 жыл бұрын
Foundations does cover this. It builds really well upon itself to teach what sounds each letter makes and when.

Can you explain how Logic Of English teaches uses the common core method? I thought common core was only for math?
@littlefootstepsbiglearning79282 жыл бұрын
Sure! No problem! Common Core is a list of standards in Math and Languagre Arts (which also includes reading and writing) Logic of English follows these standards in their teaching. If you want to know more about Common Core Standards, you can check out their website www.corestandards.org

Thank you for sharing- very helpful! LOE recommends cursive be taught first. Did you go with cursive or manuscript? My daughter is 5 and it feels more natural to teach manuscript first.
@littlefootstepsbiglearning79285 жыл бұрын
I teach my kids manuscript. That's what I felt was best for us.

Do you do both your children at the same time or individually?
@littlefootstepsbiglearning79286 жыл бұрын
I do not. My 2 kids are at different skill levels, so I have found it easier to do one at a time and cater it to their learning.

Hi, I was wondering if the teacher's guide would be necessary? I don't home school but I plan to use the workbook for extracurricular teachings. Is it still necessary?

It might feel a little incomplete without the Teachers manual in my opinion.

Hello! I am interested in starting LOE for my 3rd grader...but not sure if it will be ok to go ahead and start with Essentials, or will she be totally confused since she didn't start with Foundations??
@littlefootstepsbiglearning79284 жыл бұрын
Hello! This is a great question that I unfortunately am not able to answer since I haven't done any work in the Essentials book yet. My hunch is you will be fine. As far as I understand Essentials is mostly reviewing over the same concepts in a more advanced form, but you might want to check out the Logic of English website or check out a some Logic of English users facebook pages. They are always great at getting to questions like this. Good luck!

When did you begin LOE with your child? You mentioned first grade. Is kindergarten too early? Did you start your child on this curriculum to begin with or did they have a letter/letter sound foundation prior?
@littlefootstepsbiglearning79284 жыл бұрын
I switched to homeschool when my first child was in 1st grade so he started a little later. My 2nd and 3rd kids I have started much earlier. I feel like book A is actually perfect for preachool/kindergarten and B Kindergarten, C for 1st grade and D for 2nd grade. I just recently started easing my 3 (almost 4) year old with Foundations A.

Hi kayla. I have a small question. Can LOE be used as a stand alone curriculum or should a suplementation be in need?
@littlefootstepsbiglearning79283 жыл бұрын
Great question and it was one I had too! I personally feel like it does a fantastic job with spelling and reading, and teaches foundational concepts really well, but it lacks a little in the writing department. We used Logic of English for 2 years and have now been using The Good and the Beautiful Language Arts and Writing curriculums for the past 2 years. I still speak so highly of Logic of English but a few things just weren't meshing for us and we needed a change. Best of luck on your search for the perfect curriculum!
