Was actually googling for hardware setups just today😲🤯 Did not really grow up playing piano. Played a bit of synth, but the sort of noises I made on it was generally frowned upon in the household. Also, discovered sex and recreational at an impressionable age. But! Got myself a piano teacher in my late 20s, and discovered Logic in my early 30s, and today I applied for a college course in sound and music production. Would like to score something before I die… Gonna be starting that course next year. I have a garage. I don’t have a car… Do have a fairly unused Touché… So really, what perfect timing on this video. Appreciate you🥰

Hi Daniel. Appreciate you too! Thanks for your story, which is fascinating. Good luck on that course and do remember that if it's scoring you're interested in, my courses on Teachable might be of help. 'Orchestral Programming 01' is out now and Part 2 is coming very, very soon. Link here if you'd like to take a look: jono-buchanan-music-s-school.teachable.com/ Thanks for your continued support.

Happy 150th Jono!!! It is a pleasure to watch you! Keep teaching we really need it. As for the question you always ask at the end: "If you have any subject you would like to learn on this channel..."? Here is one; I am struggling with my Mac studio M1 max hard drive as it is already pretty full and I have watched a ton of videos on why and how to keep my 1TB Mac in a healthy size. So, could you be the guy who finally explains how to use external drives as a storage system. I know there are many ways but what I would like to understand is how my Mac works with data and files and especially with external drives. For exemple, if I use an external drive for my Logic projects do I have to delete them from my Hard drive...? Stuff like that is what I find confusing because of the way most people explain how to do it. It's about more fundamental knowledge really... Anyhow I hope this is not too convoluted.

This is a great question, and one I'll happily look at on the Channel. Many thanks for the suggestion.

Hey JB, thank you for the rundown. Could you explain in more detail why you use the line mixer and not the individual inputs on the Apollo? Too few inputs or for better sound quality/ analog summing?
@jonobuchananmusicАй бұрын
Hi Greg. Exactly that - I have two channels of the Apollo taken up with preamp signals from the Britstrip and the UA LA-610, which leaves only 6 from the synths, so I bought the Line Mixer as a simple way to have them all connected into a stereo pair of inputs. Thanks for your question.

Best videos on the net. Have you ever used any other DAW ? Do you ever notice in logic when you edit Audio parts on the fly it takes a second or so for the change to take place. I usually just stop and start the track again then the change takes place straight away. It does my head in. Any other DAW the audio changes straight away on the fly. It also happens when I change parameters on synths for example but not that often. Thanks
@jonobuchananmusicАй бұрын
That's incredibly kind, thank you David. Yes, my understanding is that the way the original audio drivers for Logic were written - back in the day - the time it takes for an audio edit to correct or play back accurately is kind of 'baked in'. In other words, it would take a complete rewrite of the audio engine to make that not the case. (My apologies to Emagic and Apple if I've got that wrong). It is frustrating but, you're right, either pressing Stop, or looping a section and just kind of accepting that it won't be until the second time around that any audio edits will play back accurately is kind of just how it is. I must say I don't have that issue with Synths or Automation - all changes there are picked up on the fly. But the slight Audio edit/adjustment lag is real, no matter how capable the spec of your machine.

@@jonobuchananmusic The amt 8 is working fine but Logic crashes now and again on closing and is reporting a core midi problem so I was doing some driver house keeping which hasn't solved the crashing issue... thanks for the reply, all the best :-)

During covid I decided to go in-the-box and sold a lot of my outboard gear and synths. The Arturia V Collection really made this possible - 39 vintage keyboards that I could never afford to own. Why do still use those Moog synths instead of VSTs?
@jonobuchananmusicАй бұрын
Hi Jeffy. A number of reasons, really. I like to change up my workflow and I definitely find that my headspace changes when I get up and go to one of the synths and have a play. I think hardware synths feel more like musical instruments (to me) than a computer ever will and so I just have a different relationship with them from a musical perspective. As I said in the video, a HUGE amount of my work does indeed happen in Logic with soft synths. But it's nice to have access to a different workflow and speed of work (ie slower!), from time to time.

I love my Little Phatty. Thats going nowhere. Incredible bass machine. I had the Mopho keyboard. Very aggressive little synth. I found it overwhelmed a lot of my recordings so got rid in the end. Juno 60 definitely a beautiful machine. I had one for a while but ended up part exchanging it for a beautiful Jupiter 6. The Junos are amazing synths though.

11:33 - Oh mate now you’ve done it… you’ve just released the Kraken due to the Moog / Mohg pronunciations! My former assistant once got into a hotly argued debate over the correct pronunciation, so much so that “war of words” turned into a physical altercation. My friend needed up getting arrested for attempted homicide, and the victim of his assault ended up suffering from PTSD, his wife left him for not being able to defend his beliefs (odd but ok), and both are now homeless living on the streets selling illicit substance since both lost their jobs. Truly a sad story, and one that is completely fabricated. 😅 I’ve heard it pronounced both ways, but if I remember correctly I think I’ve heard employees over at Moog pronounce it with the “long O” sound… instead of the “oo” sound. In reality, we may never know the correct pronunciation lol… we just live our Moog’s though 😅
@jonobuchananmusicАй бұрын
🫣🤣 My eyes got wider and wider as I read your story… delighted to hear it was a lovely piece of creative writing. Yes, I believe the Moog Rogue synth was so-named in part so that the ‘rhyme’ told everyone how Moog should be pronounced. But as others have said, cows say ‘moo’… 😉
@badaegisАй бұрын
It’s “Moog” 😂
