Logic talks New Album, Evolution of Title from God to Africaryan to Everybody, Neil deGrasse Tyson

Hard Knock Tv's Nick Huff Barili sits down with Logic for his first in-depth interview about his new album EVERYBODY. This is part 1. This interview was filmed over the course of two days at Logic's home studio. If you notice the change of clothing its because we used footage from both days. “Yeezy changed his album like 16,000 times so it is what it is. For me, I really stand behind what that title means,” he says. “The whole album leads up to that one song (“AfricAryaN”) which is just to talk about how I feel like I’m pulled in one or another direction. Black folk who don’t realize I’m mixed will treat me like I’m some racist person, or when white people find out I’m black, they treat me with racism and I don’t feel like I belong or fit in anywhere. So that’s what that term was about. It is a negative statement, I’m either one or the other. As I created the album, the album just became less about me and more about everybody else. It became about other people’s struggles. I was discussing race on this album because I was so scared to do it before and I realized that it’s the things that we’re most scared to do that is going to help others the most.”
He also says the album was originally called God. “And not in any type of sacrilegious way. It’s literally an album about God in a very beautiful way. To me, Logic is so inspirational because his whole persona and rapping career is based on the teaching of: do your own thing, be you, don't be pressured to do the norm. Our nation has already completely eliminated racism in a legal sense, but recently, I feel like we've taken our very first step as a society towards eliminating racism in a social sense. I think that the disproportionate mass incarceration of black people along with the uneven sentencing across race lines and the discriminatory housing laws that blacks and latinx still face in plenty of regions means that we haven't completely eliminated legal racism, but i agree - it's great that media is really starting to tackle it in a social sense. get out was great and i think this album will be too.

I'm a mixed raced person with a father who is half Black half Native American, and a mother who is full Persian, and what he was saying about facing racism on both sides is absolutely true. I'm literally like Logic where I don't look black at all and that shit is really annoying cause you get the racism a lot more when they don't think your black, or Persian, or native, or whatever.
