I don't understand how the whole positive and negative thing is so confusing for everybody if we're talking about the four quadrants then positive only means to add negative means to take away. In any other subject matter the word positive means a good thing and the word negative means a bad thing. It's quite simple

The vast majority of people including myself who try to correct their dog just end up negatively reinforcing the dog being more intense in the undesirable behaviour

Look - Richard Heinz knows Dogs but doesn’t have the years of experience that Han’s has and Haz of Shield K9 is smart but young and still goes to people like Stefan Schaub of Staatsmacht Kennels for advice - it’s on videos !!! I doubt Han’s of Alpine K9 needs advice from anyone at this point in His career !!!

Why are people all the sudden mentioning Richard Hines because he is just a regular dog trainer and nothing special about him for sure for him to be getting his name mixed in with protection training

Is it true that exercise makes a dog behave better? Like if we walk/run the dog every day they are satisfied? Or do we need to really satisfy their inner needs like what they were bred for ? For example I have no success in walking my border collie for 5 miles but if he is near my chicken coop he is satisfied in less than 30 mins. (Meaning he is calm and satisfied)
@pittymama45006 ай бұрын
Have you never heard the phrase that "a tired dog is a good dog" it is absolutely fact that if our dogs are having their needs fulfilled then they most certainly are going to be much better when it comes time for settling down in the home. That is not to say that some dogs don't need something more but in general most dogs just need to have a better outlet to get that energy out they tend to collect that fast twitch energy when that is not being met and it creates a lot of nervous energy.
@pittymama45006 ай бұрын
The reason the chicken coop is satisfying your dog more than a 5 Mile Walk is because you have a dog that is very clever and he needs to be mentally stimulated just as much if not more than that physical exercise so in your case finding other things that are mentally stimulating for your dog is probably going to be your best bet because there's other things besides the chicken coop that will stimulate his mind the same way.

I'm a german shepherd guy, (obviously) everyone says gsd can't compete with malinois. Even Richard hienz Miami dog whisperer here on youtube. Is this true Hans? Shield k9 ( also can be found on youtube) says they can compete? Both reputable dog trainers. On one of your other videos it seemed you were saying mals were easier to train ect, it seemed you were saying mals were superior in most if not all ways ? so i guess you think the mal is a superior working dog. German shepherd is better utility dog you say but dogs are only ever used for one purpose. Such as sport, or protecting. Not a guide dog simultaneously. Please explain?
@lukeryuzaki23286 ай бұрын
Depends on what the competition is. Protection sport, agility for big dog, AKC type obedience... you get the ideas, then IMO yes Malinois is the one you want if you compete and win. Stable dog to personally protect, do police work? The "real" GSD is your dog. Think of Malinois as a selfish dog breed. Malinois works for self satisfaction. So sports trainers focus on building motivational via play drive/ prey drive. As long as Malinois can play, it feels good. Sports are becoming more circus like, so for circus like scenario, Malinois is easier for trainer to work with to arrive sooner at the point where they can assess and say this Malinois or that Malinois is good/ not good. True protection and police work means that a dog has to work in scenario that trainer can't prepare. There would be a lot stress when there is uncertainty. You need the kind of stable dog that work based on its commitment and trust on handler, even if it's uncomfortable for the dog. Mental stability, mental strength where "real" GSD shines. Real work training is more difficult, while it doesn't follow the same circus demand of animation, aesthetic. You're wrong if you miss the entire companionship in dog duty. Somebody would call it off switch for Malinois which some/many Malinois doesn't have. "Real" German Shepherd should be a nice calm dog to share the house with you, and switch on to work when the situation demands it. Many of Malinois are kennel dogs. Performing in sports and back into the kennel, and require micro management if they're living in your house with you.

Also, I think you misunderstood Haz. I believe Haz outright said his favorite dog breed is German Shepherd, and he explicitly warned about Malinois's handler redirection issue. And he's often seen training with Eastern Europe line German Shepherds for sports. He can catered to clients by training Malinois, Malinois X GSD, Dutch Shepherd, Doberman, Rot... (just like most professional trainers), but I think Haz shared similar view like what I said in previous comment. You compete with German Shepherd to put title on them, and prove yourself as trainer. However, to preserve real German Shepherd, it's not necessarily you have to push to compete to win at the highest level. Because the sports had become counter productive breed test for a real German Shepherd. If you try to win at all cost, you risk create a sport dog that very uncomfortable to live with and very questionable working ability as protection or police work. If you may come across one of these for affordable, you train them and compete so that you boost your reputation and business. However, beside professional "competitors", I think most people with great skill, knowledge ain't that interested in successively competing. If you're dead set on getting on podium in national, world level competitions and you don't have time, resource to wash dogs, then picking Malinois is the faster way, as they're early bloomers, cheaper, selected traits that fits the trend of sports point judgement. I don't want to bash anyone, but I don't think Richard Heinz has any kind of (respectful or controversial) reputation as protection dog nor protection sports trainer. So to be blunt, I wouldn't take his advice about working, competition aspect. People should stay in their own lanes.

What a coincidence! Haz just released a new video today specifically about German Shepherd, and he pretty much confirmed what I wrote. Germans Shepherd's stability, Malinois is not as suitable as family dog AKA the "off switch"... Haz used the term "love" to describe his affection toward German Shepherd as a breed. To clarify, I am not Haz. I can swear my life on that. So if you're surprised by how similar different people think regarding GSD and Malinois, do note that under experienced eyes, the breeds' traits are very distinct.

Exactly what have you seen that makes you think Richard Hines knows anything
@pittymama45006 ай бұрын
Well first and foremost a guide dog specifically or a service dog in general are not allowed to protect. I have a service dog but I also like to do protection training and bite work as just a game to play with my dogs. I have to be very careful with my service dog that he understands when we are out in public and he's working he's not allowed to take that position because it can get him in more trouble then I am willing to take chances on. Service dogs and guide dogs have a job to do and it is not to protect.
