In none of these videos have I ever seen anyone wear a cheap pair of safety boots. Don`t tell me they cant afford them. A pair of boots is a lot cheaper than losing a foot.

It's really fascinating watching these craftsmen at work. And ... I'm not trying to be critical here ... are eye injuries from splinters or splashes uncommon in this factory? In the US, the machinist in charge of a metal shop, particularly in a university with students working on parts, would not allow anyone to even be in the shop if they were not wearing safety glasses.

Maybe it's borax, the same stuff you need for hard soldering to improve the fluidity of the molten steel.

Has 2 purposes...1st, it's very fine so it gives the parting line a very smooth surface...2nd it acts as a release agent between the cope and drag when removing the pattern later...
