Awesome video, filming, editing and button murder ! Really good points about the larger wheel size with G25-G29 the motors in those wheels just don't have the power for larger and heaver rims. As you probably know a knock off 300 / 280mm wheel you would never use in a real car from ebay might be a better option as it will be much lighter due to its cheaper construction , I have used a 270mm Formula rim on a G25 and that also felt fantastic.

Great video! Clear instructions! I run a 17" wheel on my g27 base. I run asphalt oval and it reduces my workload substantially when coupled with good caster, camber, steering ratio and steering offset. Though I know oval is a different beast, I highly recommend at least a 15" rim for oval racing!

excellent video, and understand your conclusions about the wheel size, however, going to a larger wheel increases precision, as with the longer travel distance on the circle you can make finer inputs.. yes, it is slower, but that can be overcome through practice.. I don't run racing games, but rather drive Euro Truck Simulator and American Truck Simulator, and I replaced my G27 wheel with an 18 inch (457mm) Steering Creations, Inc. (SCI) wheel for a Peterbilt Semi-truck.. As I drive commercial trucks for a living, the first major advantage was sheer comfort, holding a wheel of the same size that I hold 10 hours a day, followed very closely by the increased precision necessary for tasks such as backing.. So, the trade off is precision versus speed, and I think you will adapt to the speed fairly quickly, and learn to love the increased precision the larger wheel gives you, especially in overtaking situations in traffic.. Also, a pro tip: don't hook your thumbs on the crossbars.. it's slower, reaction wise, and IRL is dangerous in the event that your tires hit something, as if the wheel snaps in one direction or the other, it will break your thumbs.. :o)

Do you know the weight of the g29’s rim? also do you have any recommendations about what rim should I get? Thanks
@germanmosca5 жыл бұрын
@@YMHM the G29 rim weight should not be much different to the G27 rim, give or take a few gramm. Probably lighter though because its all plastic and they scraped the metal. Rule of thumb is though: If it works on a G27 it will work on a G29, because the wheels are identical hardware wise. (except for a hall sensor instead of a Potentiometer, which is kinda silly considering the dead center)

Great video. I went my self for a 320 mm wheel with the exact adapter you have, I also mounted the stock g27 buttons to it worked out fine, I haven't noticed any loss in FFB as my new wheel weighs about 100 grams more than the stock one. I got to say I am very satisfied with the mod, I can catch slides much better and drift much better overall very happy with it. I would advice to get a wheel that its not much heavier than the stock one, if one can find same weight or less even better.

I just used a Chinese after market wheel. very cheap, You can get any wheel you like and don't mind those videos that show the Chinese wheel bend on real cars, to do that on a G27 you would break the wheel base before you bend the wheel, so in my opinion its no need to go spend 100s of dollars on expensive wheel just for sim racing unless u plan it to use it on ur real car in the future,

Hey man, I know this video is a couple of years old now but I can't help but comment... did you reduce the degrees of rotation when moving to a bigger wheel? I mean, using different size wheel with the same settings will obviously make it feel wrong and by increasing the diameter of the wheel, you'd naturally have to reduce the degrees of rotation to give it the same responsiveness as a small wheel. Anyway, just seeing if you ever did that and if it made it feel better? I'm planning to do the same sort of thing... to be fair, I use mine more for drifting on asseto corsa and forza, so the bigger wheel seems appealing! Other than that, top notch video dude.

Thanks for the details! I was considering this, but now I'm firmly sure that I won't be doing it. G920 FFB already feels pretty weak to me, so I wouldn't want to make it even less powerful and responsive.
@Wojtgaw5 жыл бұрын
I use bigger custom g27 and I have to admit that it is actually less responsive and you have to move your hands more, but because I use it mainly for drifting it feels easier and more natural with those bigger moves. And one thing to notice is that with the bigger wheel forces are weeker due to bigger diameter. Still I don't regret it and because my custom is made of alcantara it looks much better.
@realtalk91955 жыл бұрын
Wojtgaw... Do you think the weaker force feedback is due to the weight rather than the bigger diameter of the wheel. As im thinking of doing this mod But don't really want to lose any force feedback as im only using it on gt5 for ps3 and its not got the best force feedback as it is. Do you know if your wheel weighs more than the stock one?
@Wojtgaw5 жыл бұрын
@@realtalk9195 I didn't think of it as it's heavier but it might. I don't know if it's heavier but I don't think so and if it is, not much. I didn't find their weights online and because it's bolted to the wheel I'm not really keen on taking it off to weight these couple of grams. Sorry, but I still think it's due to diameter but of course the lighter wheel you peek the smaller it will affect the forces :)
@realtalk91955 жыл бұрын
Wojtgaw.... Cheers mate Yh its not worth taking it off to check for the sake of a few grams lol. @@realtalk9195 I use it with pc. Assetto Corsa and Forza all the time! :D I made my own handbrake by soldering cables to one of many g27's shifters' buttons and the other side to an old joystick. 340 mm wheel is a little large I use to race sprint cars for a short period a long time ago and 340 mm is almost a 14 inch wheel I used a 12 inch wheel which is closer to 300mm. I know some guys liked the 14-15 inch wheels but like you said you had to turn your hands a lot more. The G27 wheel is a little small but still effective I would say if you want a bigger wheel you might as well save up for a more expensive wheel set like Feel VR which is a direct drive wheel.

hmm, on the G25, the screws are self tapping. I guess they cheaped on them this time around. However, I went to a 33cm and love it personally. In fact, i've built myself a flat one from carbon i had someone cut with CNC. I used an after market cheap one (which is already light with about 1kg) before in hopes the weight wouldnt be much of an issue. But it was. The carbon weighs about >400g all done. Recently made a smaller diameter (29cm) for openwheel cars. This one, i've cut from wood too, and in the shape of the AMG GT3. I dont drive OW much so didnt want to spend on carbon. Maybe one day when i've figured out all the layout as you cant really cut carbon as easily at home like other materials. Eventually i wanna put rotary switches and all this stuff on it.

I did the mod of a sports wheel for my g25 and didn't like it for the same reasons. it didn't take long for the FF to fail completely after this mod, so it may have shortened it's life, or it may have just been near the end of it's life already. i didn't upgrade my G27's wheel for this reason when i did replace the G25.
