I agree with the Dark Place in _Alan Wake_ being his subconscious-or at least that’s how he accesses it. But I would also argue that Alan himself is providing the words. In one of the the DLCs, “Barry” says “I only know what you know” and that he (Alan) is fighting himself. I would argue that Alan has already given form to The Dark Place unconsciously. I view his light as bringing The Dark Place under his conscious control
@maxderrat4 жыл бұрын
I think that makes probably the most sense. The only thing that might make slightly more sense is if you believe Thomas Zane and Alan Wake are the same person and are aiding each other through the Dark Place, but I think the most concrete explanation is what you just provided.
@corwin324 жыл бұрын
Max Derrat It’s rare to find in my experience to find an Alan Wake fan who analyzes it so well. I do think both Zane and The Clicker are creations by Wake, and that he entered The Dark Place almost immediately upon entering Bright Falls. Also, I agree, _The Talos Principle_ is criminally underrated.
@GamingUniversityUoG4 жыл бұрын
I Interpret the Dark Place as the Khaos state as Ovid put it. The state of existence before creation where the raw materials (soil/Darkness) of reality have not yet been assembled. It is the Infinite reservoir of this Primordial Sludge. It requires a form of conscious intent, (Word/Dreams/Art), to shape the Dark Place into something. As a result, when a person like alan goes into the Dark Place, his unconscious mind shapes the place so that is essentially is him walking around his own subconscious. Just a semantical distinction.
@jasminabourgeois74343 жыл бұрын
similar to the uncertainty principle and the double slit experiment: the consciousness decides what of all the possibilities manifests in physical reality. the darkness is all the juxtapositions, the light is the light of consciousness/focus and the result is the physical. It ties into synchronicity where the inner and outer merge... what you focus on, you manifest logic.

@taryncao80894 жыл бұрын
Having trouble with the email. I used to read Berserk on manga rock but it may not be available anymore. I’ve seen volumes on amazon for cheap. It’s not very convoluted its just that the same manga arc has been adapted to screens multiple times. If you don’t feel like reading (although I highly recommend you do) I would watch the 1997 anime adaptation. It has the best art and a beautiful soundtrack, it does cut a couple of details out to streamline the show for television but it’s still great. You can find all 25 episodes on KZbin. I would also recommend the KZbin channel ReaLifeRyan and zegodhand for supplimental material if you want to catchup quick.

@@maxderrat There's actually just the manga to read in chronological release order. Nothing to watch, all the adaptions were unfortunate in one way or another (the 90s anime is good but ran out of money and ends one episode before that chapter's climax). I would recommend the Deluxe Edition that's currently coming out, I'm reading it myself and it's beautiful, well-translated and the HUGE, detailed, black & white prints are works of art. Hadn't made the connection, but it could be a great fit for you, definitely. Not that there's a lack of Berserk analysis on youtube, but little of it is very in-depth so I'd love to see your take on it.

I am not particularly familiar with Norse myths, so perhaps I am wrong on this. However from my understanding ancient runes are similar to the Logos in that they are language given power. Perhaps something worth looking into? It's certainly something I wish to dig into later.
@SeppukuAddict4 жыл бұрын
Basically. Odin ‘killing’ himself to discover the runes is very similar to Prometheus’ sacrifice to give humanity the fire of the gods. The runes, and language in general, are the kind of divine components that transform beasts into men and allow civilisation to form out of the chaos.

@maxderrat4 жыл бұрын
It depends on what your definition of "connected" is.
@chempa0074 жыл бұрын
This is one subjective connection and it is obvious that we can connect everything in world, specially on subjects that intrigue us. You are in pursuing for light and shadow, and in whatever you look at you connect it, you read play games watch movies/tv shows, everything for someone has some meaning. Like for example, people are seeing numbers that are special for them, and when adding sub-tracking multiplying and dividing them, they get what they want. I like most of your videos. But this subjective experience, where you expect wow effect, would not be interesting stuff. MGS and themes is what got me to this channel. Jung continued to keep me here. This one is wasting time. I thought you will do deep review and meaning of Alan Wake and its realities, but maybe other time. Thanks

You asked for feedback so here we go. So first of all I really feel that you're starting to repeat yourself a lot. Like I would get excited for a new video but it's the same light/dark and yin/yang idea re-explained. Secondly, which would be the solution to the aforementioned item on this list, is that i'd rather see an actual analysis of alan wake. Something like the analysis series of the heart of darkness and spec ops the line which got me hooked on your channel. Give your videos more character and elaborate on the light/dark theme more instead of repeating the same idea over and over again. I hope this doesn't come off as abrasive or overly critical but what I said stems from the bottom of my heart because I know you have the potential for greater content.

What map are you referring to?
@TheDashingRogue4 жыл бұрын
@@maxderrat The map-territory relation describes the relationship between an object and a representation of that object, as in the relation between a geographical territory and a map of it. Polish-American scientist and philosopher Alfred Korzybski remarked that "the map is not the territory" and that "the word is not the thing", encapsulating his view that an abstraction derived from something, or a reaction to it, is not the thing itself. Korzybski held that many people do confuse maps with territories, that is, confuse models of reality with reality itself. The relationship has also been expressed in other terms, such as Alan Watts's "The menu is not the meal. Tldr the word does not define its self we give it a definition.
