지난 정규 2집 Home 이후 1년 2개월만에 로이킴이 또다시 세번째 정규 앨범으로 돌아온다. 이번 3집 앨범에서 포크 감성을 기반으로 한 웅장하고 감성적인 ‘발라드’ 장르를 택했다.
봄과 같았던 1집Love Love Love , 위로의 울림 2집 Home 에 이어 이번 앨범의 타이틀은 북두칠성이다. 예로부터 항해가들의 길잡이가 되었던 밝은 별 7개로 이루어진 ‘북두칠성’을 모티브로 한 타이틀곡 “북두칠성”은 보통의 사람들이 겪는 사랑과 이별, 그리움의 감정선을 유유히 항해하듯 표현했다.
이번 앨범 북두칠성은 로이킴이 기타를 내려놓고, 처음으로 피아노 선율로 작곡한 곡들이 수록 되었다. 로이킴의 아홉트랙의 자작곡에 데뷔 앨범부터 함께 해온 정지찬의 편곡이 다시 한번 호흡을 맞췄다.

“입이 하는 말과 마음의 소리는 다를 때가 있죠.”
“사랑하지 않는다면 날 떠나”라는 노랫말로 시작해서, 후반부에 “떠나지 마라”가 반복되며 절대로 떠나지 말라는, 날 사랑해 달라는, 머물러 달라는.. 이별 앞에서 숨겨뒀던 진심을 노래하고 있다.
'북두칠성', '나도 사랑하고 싶다' 와 함께 이번 앨범의 아이덴티티를 표현하는 발라드 곡이다.

fun fact... the eng trans for this song always kinda bothered me, because a more accurate translation for the title/chorus parts, "떠나지마라", would be "don't leave" rather than just "stay".... yeah the meaning is basically the same, but the nuance........makes the entire song more painfully touching. you can hear him fighting a war within himself... "if you don't love me, leave.... don't wipe my tears, just leave....." etc etc.. but at the end of the all, he is begging "don't leave".... :( such a truly amazing artist... 🌹
