Join me today as I take an experimental approach, taking the pressure off and just playing with ink, salt and the wet in wet technique to see what happens if I draw and paint with ink as if it was watercolor. I'm using a glass dip pen, but any dip pen will do, even a sharpened stick, along with a small rigger brush, a plastic store card, ordinary table salt, black waterproof Indian ink, and Dr PH Martins turquoise Bombay ink.
I'm using Millford 100% cotton cold pressed 140lb/300g weight paper, 11" x 15"/28cms x 38cms, but use any type paper you have, my paper is taped to my board with ordinary decorators masking tape.

I love the black and white one- it’s like looking through a window on a rainy dreary day or a window that has frost on it!

I am sorry to say that I like the one ink with salt more than the blue one. The texture comes from the salt is wonderful. Good experiment by the way. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful effects. I should think these techniques could also be included in water colours for texture and effects.

Hello, I did both experiments, and discovered salt to be a bit tricky, especially when the surface is not enough wet. The blue ink, though, turned out fantastic (and my fingers, for that matter), so I had great fun, and thank you greatly! Mostly for the daring!

I love this! What a wonderful surprise the salt made! Also the beautiful turquoise ink looked like sky colour on a winter’s day. I thought you were quite brave to keep going, at one point, when there appeared to be a flood of ink everywhere, but you did carry on and totally pulled it off with amazing results. I’d love to see more of these experiments.

This is very good. The unexpected results keep interest in place. As for future experiments using this, I'd really like to sea an abstract seascape, with boats of course. gotta have a boat or two. TTFN

I know that if I attempted this, mine would come out looking like a blob with tentacles. This looks so amazing though!

I love love your ink explorations and plan to do my own. I have some Dr. PH Martin, watercolor ink. Do you think that would behave differently? The information online says it is light fast and waterproof
