Since time immemorial the #Lois jati has been the backbone of #Manipur (#India).
They were engaged in every sphere of economic activities. Be that from iron smelting, to salt, to the making of brew, to #pisciculture, to #sericulture. The list is long and exhaustive.
They live in #Imphal East, Imphal West, #Bishnupur and #Thoubal districts of Manipur.
Despite their glorious history, the jati is NOT known to the rest of India. They cocooned themselves to the extent that they almost became invisible.
The name 'Loi' only appears in government records, and in libraries.
Reason being that the British colonial writers wrote the 'ORIGIN' of the jati. Not enough, academicians of the Manipur state not only elongated the 'origin' strand, but went too far.
This is one reason that today the Loi jati is invisible to the rest of Indians.
