Shishunala Sharif is, in a way, the Lalon Fokir of Karnataka. Whether it's Shishunala in Karnataka, Lalan in Bengal, or Bulle Shah in Punjab the essence is the same.

Sant Shishunala Shariff is to Karnataka what Abbassuddin or Lalan Fakir is to Bengal. Absolutely amazing song. They all wrote songs that are so relevant even to this day, I'd say they are more relevant than ever. The arrangement of the instruments is wonderful. It's nice to see how Raghu Dixit has adapted this gem of a folk song to a modern day set of instrumentation which would appeal to the old and young alike. Something similar to what the group Dohar has done with folk songs in Bengal. I heard this song being sung by a young boy from North Karnataka living in our layout. Now my entire family is humming the tune. My nine year old daughter is desperately trying to learn the lyrics and sing along. So much so that the song has been playing continuously for the last six hours as she tries to pick the subtle nuances of the pronunciation and the accent. Would like to hear this live sometime.
