I love the idea that Loki can create a story--like scenario to help Thor, but he has to give the story stakes and an antagonist to make it more powerful. That's why he takes the role of the antagonist, because he's the only one Thor can trust, even as his enemy. As usual, Ewing knows what he's doing.👌

He turns into a fly which is why Mjolnir's handle is slightly shorter than being two-handed, he's also turned into a horse to attract the horse of the person they hired to build a wall before the beginning(or end of summer, don't remember which) in exchange for one of the godesses' hand in marriage, which resulted in Odin's horse. He has powers and is literally blood brothers with Odin. I don't know where you got the idea he doesn't.

So some notes Upside down runes are a thing not something Loki created, turning a run upside down reverses or makes negative of the meaning. Second Loki was breaking character when Thor put the axe against his neck. For Thor he was shaving his beard he wasn't going to end it all and give up. But Loki thought he broke down and didnt want to lose his brother. but when he caught himself breaking character he was like, oh wait i mean no I have worse things instore for you totaly. You have to understand Loki is playing the enemy here because thats what Thor needs, but Loki still deeply cares for Thor thats what Thor realizes at the end that this is all just a trick as you said. Loki was setting him up to win. Also rune stones and Rune staff are two different things. Runes are used for magic or language or fortunetelling.

It feels like Ewing is getting close to the true Norse Religion with how he's writing Loki. In those stories, Loki is not Thor's adopted brother but Odin's blood brother. And he's not an evil mastermind hell-bent on power above all; his purpose is to push the Norse Realms forward and make them grow.

to my knowledge norse runes simply change their meaning by being upside down or right side up, loki did not actually change the meaning of it fundamentally, he simply inversed it, thus changing the meaning as anyone else could who uses runes and their magic

In truth, Odin hung upside down from Yggdrasil taking no food or water for a number of days in order to discover the knowledge of the runes. The upside down thing is new age and not unlike an upside down tarot card.
