how do you go about choosing what chord progression you re gonna use?

It's complicated to explain. When you speak a language you know that there are words that are more important than others and that provide a certain atmosphere. In music you know that there are chords with certain unique qualities. And I'm quite familiar with those qualities. In this piece I wanted to do something more romantic and emotional. Em to Am (i, iv) is a combo that doesn't fail for those emotions. And it's even more romantic if you add 9ths to the chords. Basically do this with all emotions. I already have my "toolbox" for each one. So when composing I only choose the one that suits the atmosphere

bro it's a complicated question. A major is my favorite key, but C major is more comfortable and I know it functionally too well. I prefer to compose in C but in the end I like music in A or D better. F is very pretty too though...
