Malefic Stardust's ruling states it "only prevents Field Spell Cards from being destroyed by card effects, such as that of Heavy Storm or "Mystical Space Typhoon." Since Mal Stardust *doesn't* negate a Field Spell's destruction, it only *prevents* it and Mobius (like MST) needs to target a card in order to destroy it, the million dollar question is whether or not Mobius is even allowed to target Mausoleum at all while Mal Stardust is active Even though this kind of problem can easily descend into an argument, it's a pretty interesting debate when you think about it

You can target a Beelz you control and one of your opponent's cards with Scrap Dragon's eff, despite the fact that your Beelz won't be destroyed by it.

There's a ruling similar to this with Horus lv 6, where if the opponent controls Horus lv 6 and another monster on board, if I activate lightning vortex, he can activate starlight in response, even though Horus wouldn't be destroyed because he is unaffected by spells. That rulings says otherwise. As long as there's a chance of it destroying 2+, you can Road. Regardless of other effects.

azn was right, when a card eff would destroy 2 or more cards you control (not 'target') SR can be chained to negate the eff. In this case, opponent was targeting field and 1 face down SR. When effect resolution occured, Malefic Stardust would have prevented the destruction of the field, however since it 'could' be destroyed by a card effect, then SR can be legitimately activated.

1st: Priority was to allow the opportunity to activate an Ignition Effect after summoning. Trigger Effects(Like Mobius) aren't affected. they will always happen as long as they aren't negated and can still meet conditions. so yes you are correct. 2nd: This video was uploaded a year ago. Just because they are optional effects doesn't mean they are ignition. They state that in order for them to activate, they have to be tribute summoned/summoned. That's a trigger. Trigger = effect activates under a condition stated on the card. When that condition is met, it "Triggers" the effect to activate. Ignition = an effect that can be activated at the time of the players choosing(as long as its in a proper phase). Trust or not, I'm a level 2 judge.

It is at the declaration of the effect that it is decided if two cards will be destroyed. Unlike stratos which will be unknown until resolution. This means after activation of mobius the criteria for starlight road is met and it can be activated. While you are right about the things you are citing you are citing the wrong type of effects that do let you choose like mobius.

He wanted to use his effect and using mausoleum does not count as a tribute summon so he could not use the monster's effect. that monarch card only activates its effect when it was tribute summoned. which is why they said you cant do that, not because the kid used mausoleum but because he tried using the effect without meeting the perquisites.

He was right actually. Tributing a monster is a cost to activate it's effect. Fiendish Chain only negates effects - it doesn't stop them from activating. So as long as he tributed that Lonefire Blossom for it's own effect it would work, because Fiendish Chain can no longer target it since it is not on the field any longer. But if he tributed another monster other than that Lonefire Blossom it would be negated since Lonefire Blossom is still being targeted by Fiendish Chain.

If it is unknown at the start of the effect, as in before targeting, whether or not two of your cards will be destroyed then stardust road can NOT be activated. Go to Yugioh wikia and look up the Starlight Road rulings. More specifically look at the Stratos and Righteous Justice rulings, I know those are OCG but TCG doesn't specify so that's what I'm going off of.

He didn't tribute summon the Monarch. Using the Mausoleum substitutes the tributes for life points does not fulfill the requirements for Monarch monster effects. You need to summon it normally to use it's effect. Plus he can't destroy the field spell anyway because of Malefic Stardust Dragon. Starlight can be activated if two or targeted.

It just has to be targeted for Starlight Road to kick in, and since Mobius' effect is optional, and requires you to target up to 2 Spell/Trap cards, Starlight Road can be activated. Starlight Road also activates if 2 or more cards you control WOULD be destroyed, meaning they don't have to be destroyed per say, merely targeted for destruction. However, the opposing duelist claimed Mobius gets priority, which is false. Again, Mobius' effect is optional, and requires targets in order to activate, making it susceptible to Starlight Road anyways.

That wasn't what he did wrong. He is able to summon mobius with mausoleum. However, mobius only gets its effect if it was tribute summoned, but it wasn't tribute summoned.

Reasoning behind kids confusion. I believe.... mobius targets two cards for destruction malefic stardust prevents the masoluem from being destroyed thus only one card is being destroyed so starlight road can not be activated due to only the set road being destroyed. But it really doesnt matter in this situation since mobius only has 2400 atk. Idk if that is the ruling but I bet thats what the kid was thinking.

So, he targets 2, but your field can't be destroyed, because malefic SDD's effect chains first automatically, to prevent the destruction of your field, which reduces his monster's effect to only 1 card, because your trap would be chained after malefic SDD if you activated it, which it won't effect. So I believe starlight road couldn't be activated for that reason. If on the other hand, he picked absolutely any other card on the field, instead of your field, then clearly you could activate starlight road, but your opponent seemed too unintelligent to think it through.

if you target a quickplay spell (like Mystical space typhoon) or trap to be destroyed by eff, spell or trap, your opponent can activate it as a chain, if it's call of the haunted then it would be useless because it would get destroyed after it's activation, but if it was something like Jar of greed then you could still draw 1 card.

Had a kid exactly like this last night trying to tell me that even though I had used Fiendish Chain on his Lonefire Blossom he could still activate its effect because, according to him, it was a cost...and he had a 700 rating...it's a shame YGOPro doesn't seem to like my computer anymore, otherwise I would have quit this site a long time ago.

If use the eff of Mausoleum the monster you summon will be summonened as a normal summon. That's not a tribute summon so you don't get the eff.

Actually, you can still activate SR to an effect that WOULD destroy two cards you control, so he still could have activated in response to Mobius. If the other player only chose to destroy one with Mobius's effect, however, since the cards says "Up to 2 cards," then you would be in the right. I'm not angry at you or anything, just clarifying.

even with card priority the effect is negated. that's stupid. i've been dueling since i was freaking 11 and i'm 23 now. my brother and i both play and check the rules as often as possible. you guys were right. that kid was an idiot and he was just in denial cuz it made his life harder lol
