If I compare how I sound when I'm practicing before I listen to Pahud and after I listen to Pahud, I actually sound better after I've listened to him. No joke. He's magical ♥

Wow, now that is impressive! But I can't expect any less from Pahud, can I? What gets me is his impeccable phrasing. I don't know how he can go so long without breathing. Lord knows I'm practically lightheaded when I play this piece. And I absolutely LOVE his interpretation of the final cadenza. It's brilliant. The dynamics, stretching, and color changes are absolutely astounding.

Surprising, critical that you make listening Emmanuel Pahud. His interpretation is perfect sensitivity and it is difficult to get bored listening to it. If we need to enjoy a interpretation with mistakes, I'm sure that would not have been the composer's point of view, considering his great exigency in the best sense of the term. Personally, having practiced the flute for many years, having had the chance to work with the great musician and teacher Fernand Caratgé, I consider this performance as really remarkable. Cordially

I like also the YT-version with Kinga Prada and Stefan Lindgren as much: It is very light, and with a beautiful silverish flute sound (though Kinga Prada plays a golden flute, it seems ;-) Especially the first cadenza (that with solemn piano chords) is very fine indeed!

@olinafl many composers that I have met say that this piece is "too fragmentary".. maybe Dutilleux had the same opinion.. anyway it's a great sonatina, very difficult to play well

My one criticism is Pahud insists on being so perfect, so normal with no room for error or human frailties that create artistic happy accidents the way JPR had them. Too perfect and too normal is not it for me. More temperament and nuances make it more normal.
@aensti90779 жыл бұрын
Willa i think your statement is just a common prejudice about "perfect" players. First every pro player aims to play with zero flaws and errors. Second: Pahuds playing/style is not "normal" at all. Its soft, lovebable, dark and he changes his style to mach the mood of a piece. Does he really have to sound airy, faulty etc to be interesting? I din't think so. No pro would do that! Rampal on the other hand, in his later years sounded boring/bored...his Bach recordings are just plain notes, nothing more...:/
@BellaRachel1311 жыл бұрын
What I believe should be light, witty, sustained and charismatic, Pahud plays in a dramatic way. He chooses the wrong colors, pushes when he should back off, doesn't give nearly enough nuance-wise. His performances are generally "in left field" in my opinion only.
@Bashkii6 жыл бұрын
Great performers! In my opinion the piece is nothing extraordinary. Well written for the instrument bu rather unimaginative. It's a Prokofiev -Katchaturian-Ibert wannabe
