One should not have to die to finally gain freedom. Her “trainer” claims that the slightest “change” bothered her. How could he watch as she had to “change” and adapt to filthy water that was not temperature controlled. How could he watch as she was given cheap disgusting food in order to save money, or not given shade during the heat of the blistering sun. HE and the Sequarium are to blame for this magnificent creatures demise. Did you see the small crappy pen she spent her life in? Why didn’t he do his utmost in trying to make her life better. SO very tragic and sad. Rest in paradise dear Tokitae. You were an angel on earth and did not deserve to be ripped away from your mother, penned up for decades and forced to do stupid tricks in order to be given rotten fish to eat. Sk’aliCh’elh-tenaut was her name in the Lummi Nation. Tokitae is a Coast Salish colloquial greeting that means “Nice day with pretty colors.” She is indeed in a heavenly realm of pretty colors...finally away from her captors. Rest well dear Tokitae. Rest well my dear “Qwe ‘lhol mechen” my relation from below the waves. You will never be forgotten.💔

I was 9 years old when she was captured in Washington. This morning I watched some video presentations that were updates on her health and plans for moving her back home and I was filled with joy that it was finally going to become a reality. Now it's hard to believe she is dead a few hours later. I live in Olympia near the Puget Sound and have been following her story for over 25 years. She needed to come home. Her MOTHER IS STILL ALIVE wild and free. Screw this trainer's uninformed opinion on her move. I wish they would talk to the people who really cared about her instead of the ones who kept her a captive for their own greed and egos. This is not how it was supposed to end. 😥 We must empty the tanks. Fly free Toki.

My theory is that her mother has lived so long in hopes she will once again find Tokitae. She's holding on, and Toki was too. It's an absolute tragedy on all accounts and all those involved in her capture and prolonged torture will have to pay.

This trainer disgusts me. He supposedly cared about her? Yeah, right. And 3 days ago she was healthy, now, so close to her release, she suddenly dies? A little TOO "Coincidental" and CONVENIENT. I was reading her medical reports every week and she was as healthy as a horse. I also saw aerial footage of her doing high energy behaviors. Honestly, I think that there was so much pressure on the new company to come up with millions of dollars to move her and get her into a sea pen along with pressure and bad publicity that they took her life so she wasn’t a burden anymore- what are the chances after 57 years they agree to let Lolita go home and she dies when she’s been SO STRONG in that horrific rotting tank. I know people who have visited her in Miami several times, she’s a big girl. The orcas off of the Washington coast, seem to have great genetics. I hope Lolita knows how so many tried to help get her home. But I’m suspicious there is something not right about this! We need a public autopsy to find out why she died. It said, "renal condition." That is vague and total BS. Lolta had regular blood work done and any renal issues would have appeared on the tests. Also, I hope the media looks into the insurance policy on Lolita. Miamai Seaquarium kept her in that hell hole al those years and did not care about her suffering. So , frankly, I don't believe their lies.

I'm so hurt about this news !! I seen Lolita when I was approximately 12 years old , never went back to visit. Look at that tank she once live in. How could she have move around in such a small tank, whales should not be in something that small period! Absolutely horrific and sad, unbelievable distress this whale when through for 50 years. I heard the story on Lolita how stress and medical distress in that tank!!!! was maybe a year or so ago. No she probably wouldn't have survive been so long in captivity. What is the reason for such a small tank for an animal so large, I just don't understand. Whales belong in the big ocean, they don't belong in captivity. Animal abuse is at its best, just unbelievable!!! Now she died. She could have live a long time in the right conditions. STOP THE ABUSE!

THERE NEEDS TO BE AN INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION OF THIS WHALE'S DEATH. I wouldn't be surprised if the Aquarium "planned" or at least hoped for it. She was a total liability to them now that she could no longer perform. They didn't even respect her enough to keep her tank clean - you wouldn't let a guppy live there, let alone this magnificent creature if you cared about and RESPECTED her. Reports are that they were giving her rotten food. How long can an animal live like this? Who does that to an animal and doesn't face abuse charges???? And now they were going to have to bear the huge expense of returning her to Puget Sound. I don't think they wanted to put one more dime into her. Her care alone must amount to animal abuse and the Aquarium should be held accountable.

And to think that Lolita's mother is still alive and enjoying the freedom these intelligent creatures deserve. A blatant example of animal abuse: she was kept in a small tank for 50 years for the sake of profits for the Miami Seaquarium. How can the owners enjoy that money? Having lived for 40 years close to the Seaquarioum, as a matter of principle, I never took my family there.

Nothing has made us change. Greedy humans who want to exploit animals have always existed. Animals can’t speak so they can’t defend themselves. @@annebalderston2520 I agree completely. I ran two thoughts/feelings together. Here is some clarification. (And first let me say that I STILL feel the humans with the good, kind, giving souls still exist)The change I’m referring to is, that I feel like since the “pandemic” in 2020, gigantic amounts of people have given up on compassion and/or having any sort of care and concern for others-no longer any “love for thy neighbor”. I get it that germs/virus’/disease is enough to scare people into not wanting to be around others any longer, but the hate and the violence against our most vulnerable is just unfathomable! It seems like anger/rage, violence, hatred, shaming and throwing people away have become the norm. That what I meant by “I don’t know what it is that made us change”. I guess it’s a myriad of things. Again, all just my opinion. Yes, the exploitation of animals has been going on forever and maybe it was beyond silly to hope for better, but honestly, with ‘ Lolita’ given all the numerous people who were onboard to witness change, I really held out hope. Maybe the process just took too long. I don’t know. I was headed to KZbin to watch a video on repairing a bathroom sink-saw this headline about her dying, and good lord-I just lost it. The more I thought about it the more I cried. All I could see in my mind was the recent videos that I’ve come across, showing the aerial views of her swimming in that tank when it was so dirty, and it just looked so wrong… so lonely-so unfair and so sad.
