Lolita Tips for New Lolitas | Are Full Sets BAD?

I mostly wear lolita at home and one of the things that drew me to lolita was my love of matching and collecting. Getting sets, especially if you have to track them down, is fun! I loathe the idea that I would be judged for being in a matching set mood. I mix it up and get creative when I want to, not because there's an imperative to do so. Of course other people don't have to like it. I really only approve of lolita gatekeeping when definitionaly not lolita looks are being called lolita.

Yeah, agreed! Mixing and matching is fun, but Full Sets have their places, too!

This was a fun watch! It's always interesting to see different community responses to full sets, with more popular releases it does get tiring to see people wear just the set with no add ons of their own, and I always like seeing the individuality of the lolita shine through. I have seen this discussed in other communities as well the pressure to wear full sets and be less experimental, and also as a way to financially support the brand. I think sometimes the fear of doing something experimental and not having it work out as intended can be intimidating as well Being able to work outside of the set does allow one to flex creativity though :p very fun to think about!

so I'm wathching the first pat of the skit and my brain goes...if im already inside or in line and the door person says that to some for waring a full set, I'm leaving with the person that got sent away for no good reason. great skit...so cute. no shame in fulls setsn EVER. mabet corrign is not you thing and you just wanna ware the clothes. nothing wrong with that.

I won't lie it was merely my finances that kept me from buying the full set for Rosy Gem by Meta 😂 honestly it was for the best that i only got the dress+choker and the lace shawl, one of my random taobao headbows (from a very confusing devilinspired mistake years ago) goes PERFECTLY with it without being way too matchy matchy! (It's a dark red bow with apples and roses and gold lace so perfectly complementary!)

I normally go for a "look" so sets don't really work for me.. however hving a few sets to throw on when you're not sure what to where but want to dress up.

This was intressting to watch since I am wearing tomorrow my first full "full" set coord even though I have been 6 years in the fashion (mainpiece, otk's , headpiece, jewelry, firstcuffs) XD but even with that it has been couple years of second hand hunting with the series and I have some variation with it (4 pairs of socks, 4 hairpieces )and like I said I have never done or don't really gravitate towards full sets but I thought it could be fun for once and show off my collection with this print also seeing full set coords on instagram is always so pleasing to look at so it should be fun to try it out myself since I finaly can🤔😍

I like full set coordinates, although I don't really own one. I've got a couple of dresses that I have one or two items from the set, I like that it means I can look perfectly coordinated but also add a bit of my own style to the coord.

Yeah! I usually go for the matching headbow at most, so it's fun to mix and match! But some full sets are really gorgeous when everything is put together!

I have a question. Im a beginner lolita and Im noticing that some coords i put together i like a lot. My question is when you find a jsk/op you actually like with accessories you pick out, do lolitas then keep the accessories for that specific jsk since they know it works or do you still interchange them with other ones? Like ok ill use this headbow for this jsk and these shoes for that op. I hope my question makes sense Some shoes i have for example could easily work with my other jsks but i feel like the accessories have to be "locked in" with one jsk. Is my way of processing this not right?

Im only two years into building my wardrobe, but I find it really helpful to mix and match accessories with other dresses. Its nice to have one look that I know looks good but I also like changing it up to make the dress feel "new" again. Especially if you only have two dresses, changing accessories, blouses, and shoes can change the whole look and then you have more than just two outfits! I hope this was at all helpful 🙏

You are more than free to mix and match pieces, even if they're catered towards one piece in general! Locking in pieces only limits you, IMO. I can understand what you mean, though, but if it does work with other JSKs/OPs, no reason not to mix and match!!
