The sincerity of this film to appreciate and acknowledge the Lolos who paved the way for Filipinos to pursue living abroad today just shows how hardworking people we were, we are & will always be. Thanks for this eye-opener, those last lines struck me so much. Salamat po Lolo Arturo, keep sharing your stories to the youth as we all need it these days. Indeed, a true Bayani.

I met your grandfather on a flight from San Diego to Oahu about 4 or so years ago. He was seated next to me on the plane and had many stories to share during the flight, including how proud he was of you (I believe you guys were in the final rounds of your World of Dance competition at the time and he urged me to look you guys up and watch your performance). Thank you for sharing his story, a familiar one that I have seen and heard through my own Dad

It’s almost 3am… I’m crying my eyes out. In a way, I see myself in Lolo Arturo. I lived in both worlds… left home with no family or friends waiting at the other side, with a hundred dollars in my pocket and a heart full of dreams. It’s true when he said our people have to work twice as hard with no expectations. There’s always that pressure to do good, as if you need to prove your worth. Thank you for sharing this precious video. I can’t stop crying now lol I’m taking my boards in 2 days despite being licensed in the Philippines for 11 years.. this video will go down to generations of your family. Your daughter is so lucky to know your Lolo Arturo. I wish we have something like this of my lolo.

5:28 - This was me on my dance journey. I started late, and everything was new. I was usually the last person to memorize steps. Rather than get me down, I just came to the conclusion that I can still dance just as well as my teammates. I just have to work twice as hard. Good to know this attitude will carry me throughout life.

Beautiful. Many of us came from families who worked hard to get to US soil for opportunity. I think we owe it to them by working even harder and showing our appreciation for their struggle, swallowing their pride and always keeping their vision, on the dream. You both are visionaries and we see that through your dancing , that’s why I’m not surprised by how well this was put together. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful story of your family history.

As a black American, this was very touching. We blacks have learned to fight hard against the foot of racism, but it still existed. What the Civil Rights movement did for some of us, still left other minorities oppressed. The affects are still seen today. But the essence of people who push back is beautiful. In God we must keep pushing in love!

24 Aug 2021 "Lolo" (Grandpa). The journey of my Maternal Cousin Manong Arturo Madrid from when he left Baguio City as a 19-yo to start his life as a US Navy back in the 1960's... until now! His Nanang and my Nanang are Sisters! A very fulfilled Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, friend to so many! Well noting that it was my dear Manang Emily who introduced him to his future wife..! 😊😊😊 The rest as we say is history! Proudly produced by his Grandson, Keone Madrid and wife Mari Madrid!! This short film had won international acclaim and awards!! 👏👏👏 Keone/Mari you should bring this to the #SydneyFilmFestival in June 2022!

My Filipino parents and grandparents came to the US in the 1980s. They have already worked and studied for jobs in the Philippines but had to repeat the process again for given reasons. They worked hard, so there is no excuse that I can't work hard too. All for the family to live a better life.
