Most people in human history have NOT married for love. It has always been about survival and fulfilling biological imperatives. Marying for love is mostly a fantasy that has only gained importance now in the luxury times when survival is almost guaranteed by the society we have built. But this fantasy becomming a must which the majority have no chance of fullfilling because of reality, has left a lot of people without the biological imperative satisfied, thus resulting in unhappiness later in life when one thinks about the life accomplishments that really matter to self. Of course, with society on the verge of collapse and the economy dropping, survival might become a factor again. It will be interesting to see this develop.

The problem, as always, is unrealistic standards and willingness to put in effort to create/maintain a relationship. Women like this expect the absolute best from the world because they pushed themselves to achieve a benchmark, but just like how it is true that a guy putting in effort into a date doesn't make it mandatory that the woman sleeps with him after, a woman putting effort into a career doesn't mean that men will want her solely because of that. To be relationship material you have to realize that dating isn't 'waifu/husbando creator sim 3' there will always be something you don't like or find annoying about the people you date, just like in any other social capacity where you meet people. But if you are willing to put in the effort and see them for who they are as a whole rather than one specific 'ick' that annoys you, then there is potential. IMO the issue stems from two things, feminism massively blowing up women's expectations of what reality can provide, and the internet/dating apps where guys get so little feedback that they will swipe right on basically anything with a pulse and still only get 1 response per 100. This makes women feel like they are super desired since they consistently have hundreds of guys in their dms trying to smash/date them, without realizing that few guys will settle for her once they realize what the personality behind the looks is like (cause again, super inflated ego from all the external artificial validation)
