James writes: "With 52 years as an Amateur radio operator, and with a General class license, I had a lot of opportunities to merge radio into my public safety career. My wife and I have been married 48 years in December, with 5 children. One of my four sons has obtained his Amateur Extra Class license. I am retired, and am an avid Rockhound, chasing gold, meteorites, and minerals throughout the West. I operate a small Placer gold mine in the Mother Lode and have a small jewelry fabrication business."
