Lomography's NEW INSTAX Camera! Lomo Instant Wide Glass Review

Using the instax version wide for several years I’m going say it’s the film. You just have to learn its limitations. But the lens looks pretty nice on this one. I’ve been considering the Non DSLR camera that uses instax square, tough decision?

So if you get along well with Instax and the predecessor, this one is definitely a good upgrade. I can't even see the fine details in Instax with the naked eye, that's how well-resolved it is. Unfortunately, I haven't heard such good things about the Nons in various KZbin reviews. I think you'd need to watch more tests on that.

I don’t see it as wrong exposure but a very limited dynamic range. I treat Instax as I would a slide film

The dynamic range is already very limited. I would have preferred the exposure to be +1 stop. Especially when the picture is mostly just shadows, and everything in there looks terrible, better exposure would have saved more details. In the other packs, it worked well as expected. By the way, Instax has about 5-6 stops, and slide film has 8-10 stops, so it's quite a bit harder to find the right exposure.

Great video, as always. I enjoy your style of reviewing cameras. While I'm well aware of the shortcomings of Instax film, it really comes down to do I want to pay 280 euro for a camera that takes blurry photos? lol The Lomography stuff is really overpriced and pretty lacking in quality imho. While photography should be fun, I think as a shooter, you get to a certain point in your skill set that you just don't want to settle for something so amateur looking. I have my old APS film cameras for that. 😁

Thank you. :D Well, the fact that so many were blurry is more because I missed the focus. :D Once you get better at that, it works, but it doesn’t make Instax itself any better overall. If you like Instax Wide, the camera is a pretty decent choice, especially given the alternatives.

Does the viewfinder pop out so you can use double-sided tape to stick it in the above the lens behind the film slot.

I didn't mention it because, unfortunately, it's no longer removable. That was still possible with the previous version. It would have been much better overall if they had put the viewfinder on top; then you’d only have a problem with finding the right framing in one direction. I already told Lomography that I think it's a shame it's permanently built in.

I noticed in another persons review that they did pop out the viewfinder, so perhaps your prototype is just one without that feature?

@@astoriafloyd4183 My viewfinder could also be removed, but I asked Lomo, and unfortunately, this feature is being cancled. In the promo pictures, you can also see that it's now fixed in place.

You're welcome. I always try to present positives and negatives as neutrally as possible, whether the manufacturer likes it or not. :D Lomo's cameras are always a bit niche. You either like them right away or you don't.

Well, that's tough because you'd have to build a massive lens to get that negative size without vignetting. 😅

Wenn irgendwann ein Hersteller eine Instant-Kamera baut, deren Belichtungsmesser einwandfrei und zuverlässig funktioniert, so dass man nicht so viel Ausschuss produziert, dann überlege ich mir vielleicht, noch einmal zuzuschlagen. So aber - eher nicht.

Manuelle Zeit/Blendenwahl wäre mir wichtiger. Mint RF70 ist mir aber zu teuer.

Es gibt diese Kameras aber diese sind meist recht teuer. Sx-70 mit der Mint time machine, die Porarioid I-1, I-2 und Mint RF70. Gibt ja auch Backs für RB67 RZ67 und Hasselblad.

I get much better results with my old instax wide. Don’t understand this product, it seems like a retro style exercise for people who want to look cool.

This product is for the best possible image quality using a glass lens that will produce much better images than the old Lomo Wide. This video is by a self decribed Instax first time user. Might take some time to nail correct distance. Also bright sun motifs should be darkened and shade motifs brightened.

I would also have preferred B&W Instax. I find Polaroid a bit better since it’s not as cool in terms of white balance as Instax. 👌

It’s called instax wide and not instax high. Take pictures in horizontal mode, looks better.

Could be. Personally, I prefer vertical compositions. And using the camera that way was actually easier too. :D
