this is a fantastic video of various types of wetsuit repairs. Highly recommend for any triathlete, not just to learn how to self repair a wetsuit but to also prevent tearing it up in the first place! Thank you for taking the time to create this. Top shelf work even seven years later!

Update. I repaired the slice with the glue and left it out for a day and it looked perfect, so much so that I had trouble finding the torn area. However, the next day when I applied the neopatch and then turned the wetsuit right side out the tear had reopened, I guess from the heat of the iron on the other side or from pressing down with the iron, may have pulled it apart or both, or for some other reason. I'd love any tips on how to improve my process. I reapplied the cement/glue obviously with the patch already applied to the other side and am now letting it rest again. I hope that holds. Thanks!

hello again, about 3 months ago i asked you some questions andyour input really helped me out my wetsuit survived slight redesigni was hoping to make and thanks to your videos it kind of went without problems from start to finish without practice, so it seems this video hold a lot of answers for newbies like me the biggest problem was stitching because i couldn't understand why one seem come out simply by pulling on it and the other got tighter, but in the end i stitched it back together without making too many holes trough thank you for your support and help along the way. it took me a lot of time to gather the courage. but it was wotrh the effort on the other hand i discovered that smooth skin of my suit does not like isopropanol and markers and i thought it would be a safe solvent too, oh well few shiny spots remind me to not use it ever afain

i have one more question i got one more wetsuit, i thought it will be for patches, totaly not my size but it was new in store, with a tailsplit so (after conversion) i got it for around 15 pounds (the store wrestled it up on a manequine too hard) but after looking closely it was too good to use as patch material so i decided to fix it patching the main fault was easy, glue and sticky pad i extended it down and to the other side kind of T shape to make it look better, and i was all happy it was all it took, but that wasn't the end the suit had quite a lot of small round tears around the stitching all around back seem, crotch seem and let's call them kidney seems , none of them gone to the smoot side yet, but when you pull on the suit they showed as round spots of rubber under the fabric that kind of parted where it was stitched. and one of the seems also splited part way, so you couldn't see that from the outside but it would open up next time someone would use it the questions are two 1 how to repait cracks that didn't split all the way trough? fill with glue and close back, or cut trough and glue backthe regular way? pretty much the oposite what shown on video 2 is it worth puting tape all the way on the back from left to right? (the kidney seem) how much would that reduce suit stretchyness? i mean it is pretty straight forward repair if you know what you doing and i have a suit for someone super skiny for little to no money almost new

I use my triathlon wetsuit for surfing and it worn badly on knees. What I want is to put a patch outside on each knee. I saw you putting inside, but is it possible to do it outside?

Could you tell me what the procedure is for adhering the inner lining of a triathlon wetsuit back to the neoprene? In my case the inner lining as come away from the cuff of the suit.
@LomoWatersport4 жыл бұрын
Hi Tony, You'll probably need to use adhesive to stick the layers back together.
@tobygauntlett20464 жыл бұрын
Yes, Thanks.. started adhering the inner lining back in place with a rubber based contact adhesive. Squeezed it out on to a plate and use my finger to smeared a small amount on to the wetsuit neoprene. All appears good. Bought a piece of wetsuit repair tape from Lomo online 👍🏼 Excellent video I discovered by yourselves. Definitely noted the correct iron setting for nylon / synthetics to do the job happily 👍🏼

i have a story/ question since the only suit thet they had in my pricerange at a store i could go and try it on before buying i ended up with a little bit poorly matching one it fits all around arms, legs, lower torso and armpits i have full range of motions, but it is a female model with 2 extra points of neoprene in boob places right over my nips so to fully fill it in i eiter have to wear silicone pads inside :p or resize the chest area (or grow biger manboobs but that unlikely) the extra space is around the seems in the front so i thought of cuting out the pointy boobs and gluing it smaller plus some back stiching around 5 cm long (or 2 inches) on each side i would have to cut out a cat eye shape around 1 cm from each side of the seams at the most pointy place and taper it down to the seams i don't want to look for another suit because this fits me comfortably snug all around and i am myself kind of an odd shape person so i was almost reluctant that the cheapest thing on the sale they had actually "fit" me (the size is women medium large and even small manly suits were too big in the chest on me plus most of them were too short while being too bagy) do you think that i can use just glue and stiches or should i get extra reinforcment tape too? there isn't much tension in the chhest area anyway jurdging from how it stand out in that area.
@LomoWatersport4 жыл бұрын
Glue and stitching is OK for most areas of normal strain. The tape will give a bit extra strength. From your description of the problem I'd image the glue and stitching should be fine.

@@LomoWatersport oh thanks for the reply, i honestly didn't think i get one from 4 years old video but it seems nice people still exist on this planet yes, there was no taping over the seams in the problem area and the neporene there is quite thick, 4 or 5 mm for the core panel and 3 mm on the sides before it goes into 2 mm sleeves i am only interested in removing the pyramids directly on the 4/3mm seems and a bit from the sides. while laying flatten i need to go down from 42cm under arms to somewhere closer to 38 cm while leaving everything else as it is. i guess i will just have to mark it somehow before i cut do you know what tapes stick to fast skin surfaces ? so i could get it on, and mark it while wearing it , but then not lose the markers after taking it off.
@LomoWatersport4 жыл бұрын
The short answer is no, we do not have a recommended tape for that purpose. It would have to be a stretchy tape and a bit of trial and error. Cheers Lomo

@@LomoWatersport ok then, thanks for your help. i did found one red permanent marker that is visable after drying on the shiny side so that would have to do last question that poped into my mind is there a way to remove those reinforcment diskd of neoprene from the seems junctions? it would help me a lot because i wouldn't have to look for new nylon thread and i could just reuse the old one without cuting it out. it would also look better from the inside with no breaks in the stitching my suit looks like a single thread blind stich so that could just work if i could get to the top end
