Because it’s dry in Texas. Heat is not the same as when the Dew Point is in the 70s. It’s what kills people. In other parts of the US it gets very humid.

I keep seeing Brits say humidity is lower with regard to some place in the states. You have no idea. I just checked the app right now. In San Antonio, TX @ 8:03am in the morning, it is 79 degrees Fahrenheit with 87% humidity. This is in the early morning before the temperature rises. In London, at 2:03pm, it is 89 degrees Fahrenheit, with ONLY 53% humidity. There’s even higher humidity in Detroit (further North) right now at 74% but the temp is only 63 degrees. Why on earth is there a belief that there is low humidity in the states? The southern states can be brutal here and they have high temps all summer. Everything is not Vegas, which currently is at 49% humidity, which seems fairly comparable to your 53% humidity. You should visit some place in Texas during the summer, and you’ll quickly understand what high humidity and high temperatures feel like. This is literally ALL summer
