We don't really have a "down town". We have several areas like "the city of London" also referred to as "the square mile" containing the old financial hub. Docklands which is the new financial/office hub with many modern tall buildings and the "west end" which is the main shopping streets like Oxford Street and Bond Street. London is always crowded, this seems no more than usual.
