London Bus Ride Between Coulsdon and Old Coulsdon | AEC Routemaster Vintage London Bus Ride

Ride a London Bus - On the 13th February 2019 preserved London Bus AEC Routemaster RM548 ran the old 190 route from Thornton Heath to Old Coulsdon. This bus operated out of South Croydon garage from 1976 to 1981 so would have done this journey many times. remember taking the 190 up Placehouse lane in '84 during heavy snowfall on way to school. Bus stopped half way and gave up, we had to walk the rest of way. Memories !

Wow that brought back memories - I joined London Transport in 1983 as a management trainee and was a conductor on the 190 - I used to live in Old Coulsdon aswell. Great video.

Took this exact bus route from Coulsdon South train station to its final stop on Placehouse Lane every day last month (March/April 2022) for the eight days I stayed in Old Coulsdon. A lovely ride--especially after a long day of sightseeing in London. To be honest, my walks across the nearyby Farthing Downs, Happy Valley, and over to Chaldon Church were my trip's highlights (those and seeing Palace smash Arsenal, 3 nil).

I'd love to drive a routemaster, Its the only bus i'd drive. I spent a year driving for arriva and i didn't like driving them at all. Just found them really boaring, and i could never hear the passangers talking to me due to the screen and all the noise rattling around inside my cab. I remember being very suprised as to how noisy they were when you consider the engine is at the back. I needed a clippy on my bus to talk to the passangers. I was driving coaches befor that and was used to them being very quite and i had a micropone so i didn't need to shout.

Can’t place those towns or that bus route, only went as far as Tooting Bec on the 19 when it was RM.

Cummins sounds ok but the Allison auto is so not in keeping with the RM. just sounds like any other 80’s-90’s service bus. Takes away a huge chunk of the Routemasters character. I’m not a die hard purist but nothing will top an AV590 or 0600 under the bonnet unless someone decides to stick a 6LW/LX in there.
