Never a dull moment cycling in London... I have just been out on the moors in the dark and didn't see a single person except for the glowing eyes in the woods, lots pf pot holes though lol ... Cycling is the best thing you can do, and those who don't cycle will never know... Another great video Ryan,, thanks and safe cycling... 😊

Nice to see you your still cycling with out due care and attention.. and yes pedestrians are entitled by LAW to use cycle lanes..
@alex21432 жыл бұрын
There's a lot of things that you are legally allowed to do. Like telling people to be careful, and telling people that they're in a bike lane. There's even things that you're legally allowed to do that are very stupid. Like walking in a bike lane and not looking out. If you're a pedestrian and you're forced to walk in a bike lane because there's no sidewalk, at the very least be cognizant of the fact that you're in a space for bikes instead of going full lemming.

Don't know if it was a change of tempo in the music, but this one seemed a little less frenetic and with a marked reduction in peril. It's a shame you couldn't let us have just a little bit of peril ;) Was that a Bart reference in there too? :)

Do you have any tips for people cycling in London? I haven't cycled on many busy roads before so this makes me nervous
@ryansedgwick-londoncycling90074 жыл бұрын
I'm going to make a video on safety tips soon. My best tips however are: 1. Pretend that you are invisible, that way you will never assume that someone has seen you. 2. Be predictable, don't weave around or make sudden changes in direction etc. This way other road users will not be surprised by you. 3. Take your time, there is no rush, if you're unsure about a situation then hold back and wait. Ignore anyone beeping you to hurry up. They can wait. 4. If you are ever on the inside of a vehicle, then watch the front wheel. If they are going to turn in on you they may not indicate, but that front wheel will have to move. So it's a more reliable indicator than the flashing orange light. 5. Most cyclists die due to being crushed by big lorries when they are up the inside of them and the lorry turns. This is an easy situation to avoid putting yourself into. See point 3. 6. Learn the stopping distance of your bike, then always cycle with that in mind. Don't cycle into a situation that you can't stop for. By that I mean if you know that you can stop dead in 5 metres, then always visualise a 5 metre gap ahead of you so that, no matter what happens ahead, you can stop in time. 7. Don't cycle too close behind other cyclists. They can block your view and if they stop suddenly for something ahead, you make not see and will go into the back of them. If there's a cyclist in front of me I never look at that cyclist, I put myself in a position where I can see past them to the road ahead. That way if something happens that will stop them, I'll see it the same time as they do and stop without crashing into them. 8. Follow the Highway Code, don't run red lights, don't cycle on pavements etc. The rules are there for a reason and they protect you, operating outside of them increases the risk to you. 9. When traffic is queued up be aware of pedestrians crossing through the traffic and popping out into the cycle lane, look through the cars (through the rear and front windscreens), you can often spot a pedestrian coming through in advance. That's just a few tips. I will try and do a video on it very soon with real life examples. Safe cycling my friend.

@ryansedgwick-londoncycling90072 жыл бұрын
@@BgtfwI do, that’s why my videos are full of misses. If people will insist on walking out into busy traffic without looking then I’m the last of their worries. Pretty soon they’ll encounter a cyclist or driver who isn’t paying as much attention as I am. Tip for you, before walking into the road, stop, look, if traffic is coming wait for it to pass and wait for a safe gap before crossing. 🙂👍🏻

2:56 this is the way it works in some less developed countries. Scooters and traffic just flow around meandering pedestrians and people are generally more chilled about things without getting a stick up arse about who has priority. I find adopting this mentality just keeps things more relaxed in general
@ryansedgwick-londoncycling90074 жыл бұрын
Less developed countries tend to have much higher road casualty rates. That said, I don't mind as long as people look and pay attention. Too many people in my commute just walk out without looking, if you do that to a car you're only risking your own health, but do it to a cyclist and you're risking their health too.
