Thanks for this walk down Oxford Street! My first time down the street was in 1976 (I'm an old guy) and my second was in 2002. My December 2023 walk down Oxford Street was depressing due to all the "chain" stores, whether athletic shoes, watches, or clothing shops, which are in every large city in the U.S. as well. Marks & Sparks and Selfridges, old British names, have always been there and I also remember stationers and camera and photo shops back in 1976. One place I enjoyed visiting on this recent trip was Audley House, home to James Purdey, a very traditional building with so much more character than the post-war developments. Thank you for keenly observing the lack of places to eat; during the December visit, there was a light rain and I was feeling peckish but had nowhere to go. I chatted with a some building surveyors at two renovation sites and the building regs might be one of the reasons construction projects take so long. Frankly, I think another reason is that large spaces are hard to fill with so many retailers online and so much retail crime in large American cities. Might there be similar concerns among British firms? Finally, it was nice to see that glorious sunlight on the street; it really brightened things up.

I worked in London in the '60's and every Saturday would head back to Oxford St. to part with some of my well earned wages (£7.10shillings a week!)😃 . Loved the shoe shops like Dolcis and best of all Ravel where you could buy a pair of fabulous knee high leather boots for 59.11d shillings about £3.00 then. You could also order shoes made to measure for not much more (thought a high price at the time!) Ho-hum!......not so good these days in Oxford St. unfortunately. Thanks for the memories Hannah. 💕

I agree with you, pre covid, east oxford street was really scary, many buildings in construction, and now, that s the west part that seems pretty poor with a lot of empty space, except for selfridges

Lovely HANNAH. I love and enjoy all your videos of London that take me back 50 years to the first time I visited your wonderful city. Living in Cambridge in the 70s I frequently visited those streets that you walk today. Thank you

On the Marble arch side, both M&S and Selfridges have places to eat. M&S is cheaper (as expected). The Foodhall has seating and takeaway food. Selfridges has more restaurants. Just off Oxford is ASK Italian next to Primark on Park Street. North Audley has several restaurants, a block from Oxford street - both into Mayfair.

I had a good walk through Fitzrovia today and was shocked to see how many shops and offices are gone. So many buildings are in construction or are left a complete mess.

You already know that I hate shopping 😊 I shop in store and online and hate both 🙃 but I love seeing the Queen of KZbin shopping or just walking on Oxford Street 😎 and talking‼️ I have already told you that you have a beautiful voice but I really like what you say 😁 You are hilarious ‼️ your friends in London are lucky to have you in their life. I used to work just off Oxford Circus 20 years ago. The buildings mostly still look the same, but many of the shops have changed and I see the paving is still dotted with chewing gum.

My goodness, I happened upon your channel this morning, and I was utterly delighted to see you engaging in a discussion on the latest developments in London. What I found particularly captivating was not only your insightful presentation of the subject matter but also the expressive manner in which you convey it-your facial expressions, the occasional gestures of your hands and fingers, and the exquisite way you articulate the language. Bravo! I shall certainly be following you closely. 😂

Very nostalgic video for me. Oxford Street 2024 is reminding me of the 1990s when my Retail career started. Good times for me. Thanks for sharing Hannah 🥰

To demolish the M&S building would be unspeakable vandalism. How wicked! Let them fix it if it has structural issues! Thank you for your video. It was an epic walk! Thank you!

Oxford Street is Oxford Street. Regent Street and Oxford Street used to be our shopping area when living in Marsham Street. On the back streets there are nice places for lunch. Back in 2009-2015 it was ok. London Living….

Living abroad for over 20 years now, and as a Londoner myself, I have to say, Oxford Street now looks quite lame, to say the least. However, your videos are great. Thank you very much. I feel so in touch with London through your videos. They are a walk down memory lane, and I just really enjoy them, especially when I'm feeling a bit homesick. Thank you so much for your channel. It's amazing."

My cousin will be arriving in London on Saturday; I told her to watch your blogs and see if she could go to the food market at Duke of York Square. BTW my home state of North Carolina is the birthplace of Krispy Kreme doughnuts...best doughnuts in the world, especially the raspberry jelly filled. Have a good one.

Hannah, I've never seen so many shops on one street, in my life! I order online all the time now. I get tired very quickly , since I have cancer, shopping is not an option for me. But dang it, someone must still shop. Thanks for taking me along with you, enjoyed it very much!

There used to be Adlers where the biggest Primark store is now. I remember the opening of Primark, Marble Arch. The queue would wrap around the building. I can't see Dorothy Perkins. Loved this one a lot. The huge TopShop was so iconic. M&S Marble Arch was my absolute fave. I'd spend hours wandering around. 5 AM queues at Next for 75% sale )) All night buggies on Friday night with drunk people, riding up and down OS. Gosh, I miss the old Oxford Street so much.

The plans for Oxford St look good 👍🏻 Putting the trees in will make such a difference. Hi Hannah 🌻California here, we say “flippin” all the time. I use it on more formal occasions instead of the other F word 😂 My boss is the worst for cussing but I love her for it. Fun 🤩 video!! Thanks for the walk around. Can’t wait to get to London (aiming for 2026)
