This is Part 2 of 3 videos of the Terminal Stations of London. If you missed Part 1 it's here;
• London Has 14 Terminal...
Why another video on London Trains? Well I was there visiting and had some spare time after work to travel around and visit all these stations.
Where I live in Australia, our capital cities generally have just one centrally located railway station where regional and inter city / inter state passenger trains arrive and depart from.
So when Australians like myself visit London we are blown away by the fact that the city doesn't just have 1 'Central' station but has (and depends how you count them) over 14 'Central' railway stations.

Charing cross actually takes its name from the replica cross for a Kings Wife that stands outside the station. He mourned her and had crosses built for the length of the funeral route.

Charing Cross marks the site of the original final Eleanor Cross. When the wife of King Edward I (Queen Eleanor of Castille) died, each of the overnight resting places of her body, returning to Westminster Abbey, was marked by an elaborate memorial cross. The current Charing Cross monument is a Victorian replica.

The connection at Waterloo/Waterloo East was to allow through running to Cannon Street.

Great video, like the others. I always tend to think of Waterloo and Waterloo East as the same station. I know it's not and so your definition is certainly the correct one, but it just feels like the same station to me. It is also home to the shortest tube line in London, the Waterloo & City Line, with only one stop at each end. It has been known by drivers as the suicide line, as it was so boring, just going back and forth all day, day after day. Still worth travelling on just for that short journey. Another idea you could have for London videos is the four metro systems they have. Most cities are lucky to have one, but London has four. By metro, I'm using a common definition (though there are others), which are: 1. Mostly segregated from traffic (so no trams or other services mostly on streets) 2. Stops at all stations, so you don't need to know if you are on the right train on any line 3. Mostly off peak headways of 15 minutes or better (so you don't need a timetable) 4. Electric And London then has the obvious Tube, but also DLR, Overground and Crossrail. Some have pointed out that ThamesLink could also fit that within London's boundaries and be a 5th, but I'm not convinced on that. I think it fits 3 of the 4, but maybe not no. 2 Damn London is amazing. 14-18 terminus stations, 6 international airports, 4 metro networks... Also if you get bored, check out some other cities in the UK which also have really interesting networks. Manchester for the incredible rail history (I am happy to give you a tour there, as I do rail history tours), Liverpool for similar, Glasgow for their incredibly cute, mini tube and other rail infrastructure and Newcastle... There are others, but those immediately come to mind. I realise you're based in Australia, but hey. I'll also be enjoying your Australian videos too as I grew up there and lived there for many years, but it's probably changed a lot since then

Shame I live so far away - I don't get that many chance to visit all these great places with fantastic current and historical transport. Thanks for the great information and offer to take me on a tour. Very kind. I have never ever been to Manchester, but of course hope to one day. i will look you up when I do. Thanks again. BTW I have been specifically enjoying the arrival of the new Glasgow tube trains - and also HS2 being constructed. Mainly thanks to all the other You Tube makers.

Southern no longer operates regular trains from Victoria to Southampton as of Southern's most recent timetable change. I used to take that train a lot as it was a longer journey but much cheaper than going by waterloo.

What about 'London Bridge' station. That is a terminus station although it does have a few through tracks. Also it is in the south.

Great video, thanks. Part of the West End Girls video by the Pet Shop Boys was filmed at Waterloo. Nice 80s reminder of how it used to look. Maybe you saw it there too before you visited.

Is Waterloo the only station with a song named after it?

Good question.. I guess there are few songs with titles that are stations but are they actually about the station itself.. like Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty?

Calling Waterloo East a "terminus" is a bit of a stretch, but I suppose you could justify it by saying it's part of Waterloo, which does definitely count. haha

Bognor Regis isn’t that exciting having visited several times. Don’t know if you heard the story about the last words of King George V? When dying one of his attendants said he would be fine and up and about in Bognor Regis soon to which the King is reputed to have said bxgger Bognor and promptly died. Great channel by the way.
