On 11th September 2005, Southern Trains marked the end of slam door operations across the Brighton Main Line. By running a special service, formed of 2 modern Class 377 Electrostars, they broke the non-stop record and set a time of 36 minutes and 56 seconds, proving the future of the railway was now.
11 years later, it is time for us to recreate this unique display of modern motive power. Utilising Southern's latest Class 377 iteration, a duo of 377/6's, we shall have the tracks cleared and run such a test ourselves. Can we get from London Bridge to Brighton, under the iconically set record from over a decade prior, and with all the wheels still on the rails? Time to find out...
