When you take a trip in Europe like this, you should decide yourself: Do I want to travel fast, or do I want to travel scenic but slow routes. What you presented, is a mix of both. The fast trains from zurich to milano go by tunnel and are a lot quicker then your route. One problem in Paris is the missing central station for all trains in all directions. You have to use the Paris metro to change from your arrival TGV station to the next departure station. That cost quite a bit of time. In London they solved this problem very good and changed the ending of the Eurostar line from Waterloo international to St.Pancras station in the nothern part of the city. So yoe can skip the London tube, when your heading to Edinburgh or Birmingham.

I have to agree. It a mess having to use the metro to change station. .

I live north of Venice in Pordenone and have been to Venice, what? a +100 times? Still, when I emerge from Santa Lucia and there is Canal Grande only one word in Italian for La Serenissima and that is: "Mozzafiato". Every time even for me. Venezia is indeed Unica. Viva L'Italia.

Reminds me travelling to Italy every summer as a child by train, this was before the Eurostar. We went from London Victoria to Dover then Dover to Calais. At Calais we then got the train to Paris Gard du Nord then a taxi to Paris Gard du Sud. It was then one train from Gard du Sud overnight to Milano. Sleeping in the train at night as a child was an adventure in itself. 👍

Currently (September 2023) the railway and motorway leading to the Frejus tunnels are interrupted on French territory. There are kilometre-long queues at the Mont Blanc road tunnel and the Gotthard base railway tunnel is still closed following the derailment. Maybe crossing the Bernina pass isn't such a bad idea.

During the summer, a RhB bus, which awaits the Bernina Express, connects the railway station called Tirano RhB (although it is in Italy it is considered Swiss territory) with the Lugano railway station. The route is included in the Swiss Travel Pass, Eurail Pass and similar. Only seat reservation is not included.

@Luigi-uj5ml7 ай бұрын
@@rob5197I was referring, as I wrote, to the Tirano station of the Rhaetian Railway (RhB). It is no coincidence that to access it you have to pass through the post (office) of the Customs Agency, as happens to access the platform of the legendary Baden station in Basel. It is no coincidence that tickets and souvenirs sold at the counter are subject to Swiss VAT and if you send luggage from Switzerland (for example from Thusis to Tirano RhB) you will not be given the appropriate customs declaration form. Even any idiot from Milan knows well that Tirano is in Italy (Lombardy).
