Let's hop on "The Tube" (underground rapid transit) and check out London!
Travel back almost 1,000 years with us as we explore the famous (or infamous!) Tower of London, the historic castle situated along the banks of the River Thames! Serving as both a palace and a prison, the Tower has played an important part in English history, and has been the epicenter of mystery and intrigue.
Afterwards, we will take a tour of the Tower Bridge, where we'll check out the high-level Bridge Walkways and brave the glass floor suspended over 100 feet above the road below!!!

Thank you for these videos. I congratulate you folks enjoying London the correct way, I my opinion, with real passion for what you are actually looking at, feeling, tasting. Too many visitors just go to these landmarks to "take a pic for Instagram"...that's a real, standing Roman wall there!!! 😁 As we say in Scotland, haste ye back! (Come back soon in old Scots).

Hi @stewrmo! Thank you for watching and commenting! It's so true! If visitors would just take the time to explore...REALLY explore... ...the people, the history, the culture, the architecture, the food, the natural beauty of the land, etc., then travel becomes a life-changing experience! Stay tuned for more adventures to come, friend!

Really enjoyed the video. Is the tower bridge an easy walk from tower London and do you have to climb a lot to get to top and was there a long wait when you arrived ?
@AdventureswithBobandSteph

Hi, @alanzemsky7695! Thank you for watching our videos! We are so glad that you enjoyed it! It's a quick 5-minute walk from the Tower of London to Tower Bridge! Once you pay for your tickets at the Tower Bridge Ticket Office (on the West side of the North Tower), you can choose to climb over 200 steps to the top, or take an elevator to the walkway! It is a good idea to allow at least an hour for the tour! Enjoy! Stay tuned for more adventures to come!

Personally I love the Tower of London. I live 130 miles away to the West in a major Port City of Bristol, I haven't been to the Tower now for about 15 years. The Imperial War Museum in Lambeth is a good day out. FYI its where Charlie Chaplin grew up before he went to the U.S with the Fred Karno Troupe' With a certain Stan Laurel

I was up inside the control room in Tower Bridge some forty years ago with our Industrial Archaeology Society and the Engineer asked if I'd like to lift the bridge (the roadway) but there was a lady in our group so I felt honour bound to offer that to her. She pressed the button and the arms majestically rose opening the bridge to water traffic. That was something else. I've never been so close to opening the worlds most famous bridge! I'm nearly 80 now, I bet I'm not lucky enough to get to do that now. Good video guys, thanks.

As they say, so near yet so far, anyway the lady in our party was chuffed to bits! Pre electricity of course no button to press, it was exactly the same as a railway signal box, with a darned great lever to heave on, that operated the machinery down in the depths and you can still see the coal boilers to this day, they fired the steam engines. We also went down into the voids under the bastions and viewed the great weights that balance the cantilever arms towering above us, it made a cathedral seem small. However each arm is still raised and lowered by their massive cylinders of water and when that is released they are obliged to move, it is very majestic in its size and power. Here it is from the horses mouth! Each of our mighty bascules weight over 1,200 tons. A 400-ton counterweight help them to descend into the Bascules Chambers. The bascules were were built vertically to ensure river traffic could still pass. They were the final part of Tower Bridge's construction. Tower Bridge is of course a Bascule bridge. Thanks again for your post Bob & Steph - have fun with all your adventures. @@AdventureswithBobandSteph

You will recognise those cannons as you walk around london, as lots were used as bollards hundreds of years ago next to roads. Lots of flats had their iron railings removed to make planes and armaments during WW2. After the war, iron grid stretchers which carried soldier's, were put around flats as fences rather than throwing them away. Try and get a boat or bus to Greenwich, and see the Cutty Sark tall sailing ship and naval museum, where naval officers were trained. Also Richmond Park by train, you can cut through the back streets to the Thames. It makes a nice walk to Teddington Lock, where the tidal Thames meets the inland river Thames. Boats are lifted by water ten feet to the higher river via the Lock. Good Victorian engineering! Have a nice time.

Fun fact: the walkway on tower bridge used to have free public access, back when it first opened in the 1800s. They closed it later on because it was too hard to police and became a hotspot for pickpockets, muggers, and prostitutes.

Try and go to a cafe one day, there's lots in London, where you can eat an English breakfast all day and the food is cheaper than restaurants. The customers are friendly too. Just Google London cafes.

Good advice! Perhaps we didn't know any better, but to be honest, the food was always delish and the staff were always friendly at every pub or restaurant that we stopped at, whether it was London, Sterling, Dublin or Edinburgh. The only mishap was when one of our party tried haggis for the first time! LOL! But, I think it was more a case of food allergy than ingredients or preparation. Curious for the next visit to London...what is the best chip shop in town?
