London is a joke compered to L.A. or NYC, in terms of traffic that is. Srsly rn, if you live in santa monica, what you see on the GPS that your apartment is so close to the beach, the city being so big and populated, traffic jams are a common thing and you can expect more than an hour just to get from your apartment in santa monica to the actual beach, nvm going there from like Hollywood Hills or Downtown. NYC is no difference, especially Times Square at night.. dude that's a nightmare, it's like downtown in Beijing or Tokyo, almost all of the people there are tourists, that often block or disturb traffic. In NYC, a normal trip from Central Park to Times Square in the day will take you about 1 h and a half, but if it's night, 2 hours or more should be expected. If it rains, add another 30-50 mins. Just so you know, lived in both of these cities for more than 7 years

At least in most of New York City there is a real choice to avoid the worst of it. Apparently that is true of an increasingly large portion of Los Angeles, but Los Angeles still has a lot of work to do.

just to add to this. Also London has very good public transport and people choose to ride it regardless on their status and we still have traffic issues .

I went there in a coach and i cant confirm that at all. The traffic was pretty fluid for such a big city although i mostly used the tube. Also i found the Brits or the London people to be very posh and friendly. Problem is, the London people dont seem to care about traffic lights. The drivers yes, but passants usually cross the street no matter if the light is green or red. Which was very confusing for me and other tourists.

From india,although we have worse kind of jams,but just looking at it,how do someone drive with so many signs ,signals,limits all placed just next to one another?? Driving in london seems like dodging the parked cars And how do you cope with those small bus lanes ,anytime the bus makes a turn to join the main traffic,so much of distruption in flow takes place It is so hard to keep up with all road rules just back to back ,they dont even make sense,why not make underpasses at junctions to make traffic move without stopping at red lights?...uninterrupted natural flow

The A4 is the main road west in and out of London. The A40 goes north west, the A1/A5 to the north, the A10/11/12 to East Anglia, the A13 to Southend, the A2 to Kent, the A23 south to Brighton, and the A3 south west to Hampshire.

London really needs an elevated sky road system. The problem with London is that it is a very old city and the roads are often narrow because of it. The traffic can be horrible and frankly, a person on a bike, can get from A to B faster than a car on some days. A really well thought out sky road system with wide roads and bicycle lines on the sides will help to ease congestion. London has an excellent public transport system but there is no denying the roads are really slow. This will be great investment for the future.

The Solution: Get more people out of their cars and onto public transport. London has among the best public transport network of any city in the world. There's no excuse to drive in central London in your own vehicle in 2019. It's hard to find parking places, and we also have a Congestion Charge which applies to all non public vehicles in Central London. Imo it should be higher to deter more people from taking their cars into central London. The last thing London needs is some awful futuristic 'bladerunner' style network of' skyways' as you call them.
