THANK YOU for this "time capsule"!!! You really managed to capture the atmosphere in the Underground. So good that you not o n l y filmed the stations, but also included the surroundings. The ride on the escalator, outside the station, etc. Even though the '59-stock was shabby and worne out, I do really miss out on the "cosyness" they brought and, not to forget, the SOUND, when accelarating!!! From my first trip to London in 1968 (at 12 years of age), I've followed the change and development of the tube through many trips. (In 1968, there were still the old lamps with sades hanging from the ceilings - no flourescent lights!) The London Underground, even though it has undergone major modernisations, is still the "champion" of all the underground or metro systems in the world! /Christer Lindstrom in Sweden

Its nice seeing the clanky old 'Turbies' plying the lines. You did a great service sir in documenting these classic antiquated Tube trains. The Northern line still had these Turbies running when they were introducing the much higher tech mid 90s stocks with those swish sounding Star Trek style doors. Modern warning tones, audible station announcements, LED visual info. fold in seats by the doors to allow wheel chair accessibility and gave the carriages a more roomier feel. Totally out of this world compared to the old Turby trains.

They are based on a 1938 design, maybe that's why they looked ancient. Also the unpainted bodies and they weren't refurbished to look more modern. The 72 and 73 stock look more like modern stock with the lack of openable windows. But the bodyshell, pocket doors and how the windows were stuck to the body give off their age.

The Northern Line trains traction motor control system is actually more technologically advanced than the Jubilee Line trains, despite them being a year older.
