I recently watched a video showing Woking as it is today. I lived there from 1939 to 1957 and am sad to say that I no longer recognise much of it. Therefore, I was pleased to see this video and I do remember so much of Guildford and am happy to see that it is still just as familiar and very little has changed. I lived in Walnut Tree Close and worked, at Billings Printing works from 1958 to 1960.
@ChattyWalkswithAngela Жыл бұрын
You're right, Woking has undergone incredible redevelopment in the town centre especially. Guildford, on the other hand, has retained the main street and the areas close to it, so those parts remain much the same. Glad you liked the video:) Angela

2006 to 2007 I used to work at an Indian restaurant called India, at the other end of High St. Came back to my country after a year. One year in Guildford was an absolute blessing for me. I look at the video and it shoots me back to the atmosphere and the authentic feeling of the town. and the lovely outskirts that go parallel to the highway and the scent of freshly cut grass.

Hello Angela and helper. Loved the walk. I have added it to place to visit list. The Normans where castle builders he and his nights as you said built castle to control the Saxons. Love the history you as you walk and talk. Over share away! It’s been in the low 30s here making sleep a distant memory, raining again now of course... I think the staycationing is the reason for this week’s overcrowded beaches, it’s hot and people understandably want to get out and enjoy it before good old British summer weather returns🔆⛈

I went to Guildford Park First School in the 1950s (top of Ludlow Road, behind the Farnham Road Hospital). One sunny afternoon our teacher took the class for a walk up Stag Hill (the site of the cathedral) and I remember gazing at huge slabs of masonry lying about on the ground. That was when work was still at a halt. In much more recent times, I visited the (finished) cathedral with an American friend. I got chatting to one of the guides there and told him about my experience as a schoolboy. He pointed out that Guildford Cathedral is unlike most others in the country in that some of the guides (himself included) were older than the cathedral.
@ChattyWalkswithAngela Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing that, much appreciated:) It's one of those odd things with Guildford Cathedral, in that it is so easy to forget how 'brand new' it is. I haven't been there for years.... well... other than seeing it on the Omen;) Angela

Hi Angela, Trains in and out of Waterloo are plentiful and absolutely packed, or they were BC, trains take about 35 minutes. Richmond would make a nice video, either in the town or by the river.
@ChattyWalkswithAngela4 жыл бұрын
Hey there John, hope you are keeping alright. I'm hesitating whether to make Richmond next or the one after that. I'm trying to avoid my top favourite new places during lockdown as I want to show them in more normal times. Richmond was next in line just as lockdown started and I'm waiting now for the more quiet times of lockdown to make the streets more empty for filming while keeping a normal sort of feel. So perhaps during the next month. Angela

Let's Walk London Yes I understand that logic, if I like somewhere I like to show it at its best. I actually prefer some parts of London without the crowds. Portobello road in particular looks really quite charming with just a scattering of local people. There seem to be a lot of these London walking You Tube video makers around now, I follow them, do you? Most of them just do walks, but without commentary. Have you seen Joolz? he's very good, very knowledgeable about London.

Hi Angela another great video well done I have never been to Guildford but I know it is indeed a lovely place. And looks like it is getting back to normal slowly but surely.
