When the monarch is in London, there is a ‘long guard’ consisting of an officer, corporal major (who carries the regimental standard), two non commissioned officers, a trumpeter and 10 troopers. Whatever the season or weather, members of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment ride down from Hyde Park Barracks in Knightsbridge to take over guard duties. Whoever in the military authorised or requested the painting of the white lines should have issued orders to all guards to enforce them strictly, just as they always did in relation to touching the reins. The signs should also be reworded. There is no need to warn about horses kicking and biting as tourists are no longer close enough to be at risk and no need to warn them not to touch the reins.

Until the Guards and the Police start to enforce actions against any and all violators of those rules, they will continue to see violations/violators push the limits. If the Guards and the Police care so little for their rule, the visitors will not care either and will take advantage to do what they want. Everyone one here banging on about the 'rules'...nobody knows what the Troopers 'orders' are except for them. They are highly disciplined so won't be 'breaking rules'. More likely as case of for the hour on Sentry, their horse, their rules and the lines are their for them to enforce boundries if they deem it necessary. The atmosphere there does seem rather subdued.

Great and much needed are the boundary lines. The problem is all the guards need to keep everyone back. If one tourist is allowed to cross a few inches then the next will take a foot and then you are right back with the same tourist pest problem. Be consistent and be loud. Beautiful horses.

Notice how calm the horses appear to be in this video. Maybe it's a coincidence that these horses happen to be two of the calmer ones, but even in the videos of the signs, "don't touch the horse" the horses were much calmer. It is so much better for their welfare not to be crowded and touched all the time. Methinks that Ormonde might miss the buzz of biting people! There's always going to be idiots who don't have any common sense and won't even think about what the white lines are about. I do believe that there should be a sign "stay outside the while lines" either on the wall, or painted on the pavement. Yes, I agree with other people. The guards should be enforcing this. If they keep doing so, the word will get around.
