Sadness and loneliness....my favorite book feels. I swear I am a fun person to be around. I swear. Alex, I LOVE the way you talk about books. Seriously, you are becoming a favorite! I have all of these books on my shelves and haven't read any of them. I need to get a move-on. I see all around the internet that loneliness is the new "smoking". It's a problem, for sure. I am a solitary introvert and rarely get lonely but most people in my orbit suffer from loneliness. I worry what effect this coronavirus is having on those who already struggle. I hope this is all resolved ASAP.

haha, I find I have to convince people in my real life that I'm not all doom and gloom as my reading is, either! Thank you so much for about how I speak of books---I'm almost always thinking while talking at the same time, so sometimes I worry I sound a bit too dreamy and hard to follow. I especially get you on the loneliness front, I just moved to a new state and don't know anyone and am a bit far from family and friends, and it's hard to sort of inspect why I did it from others' eyes. Truthfully, I don't have much of a reason haha, but I can see how it may be perceived of me inviting loneliness, when I think it's more optimistic in my eyes sort of combating loneliness by being stimulated of so many new things around me and my daily life evolving too. Hoping for a resolve to all this soon, too!

@@whatpageareyouon I am older than you and I could have never had the guts to leave where I've always lived. I don't necessarily like where I am, but it's comfortable, I guess. Looking back, I now wish when I was younger, I would have broken out of my shell and moved to where I've always wanted to move and that's Maine. We have one life and we have to do it and use our time as we see fit, especially if we don't have children or other attachments. You are so young and smart and I think it's amazing that you set yourself up for an adventure, of sorts. Maybe I'll end up moving to Maine because life is short and why the heck not? Thanks for being such a calm presence in a loud and often mean world.

Good timing for this too. Nice job! 👍 I’ve been afraid to reopen Catcher

Thanks! I actually reread Catcher about a year ago--I was definitely more sympathetic to Holden now that I'm older than his character. What I first interpreted as hostile angst from him when I was 14, I kind of see it more as this earnest sense of curiosity on his part. By reopen do you mean to reread or to keep chugging along to finish? If it's about rereading, when you get around to rereading it I hope it's just as impressionable as the first time!

@@whatpageareyouon Nice! I've traditionally ranked it as tied for my favorite book of all time. I haven't read it for a few decades now while its competitor has been reopened a few times. It would be a re-read if (when) I get to it.

Thank you! It's funny, in the beginning of The Pisces I definitely did not like it, which is rare for me to ever label something as being disliked, since I try to figure that every book must be for some reader out there. Somehow The Pisces turns itself around by the end of it all, probably because it kept taking twists I wasn't expecting. I hope you find it worthwhile!

whatpageareyouon Haha! I tend to look at books with similarly open mind. I’m interested in how “out there” the book sounds, and I can imagine it’s not for everyone. I’ll let you know how it goes when I finish!

I read _The Lonely City_ and liked it, but for me I found that the bio's of the artists sometimes overwhelmed the theme of loneliness.

I agree---for me it nearly borders on textbook. I love how her mind builds relationships between her examinations and real life, to me it sort of reads like the magic of it comes off unintentionally. Perhaps maybe she figured more people would only be interested in the bio stuff more! A funny thought

@@whatpageareyouon sorry, I just don't like when people dislike something without giving a feedback :) Could be as you say, I hope at least. I am binging your videos while working from home and for what it is worth, I appreciate very much how you structure them and your well thought analysis. I may disagree with you in liking or not a certain book, but your reviews are professional and respectful. You have my likes :) Cheers from Italy, Cris
