@@ManlyFightingGames absolutely. i said something similar in another video about sf. these games date back to the 90s so for anyone that started back then add +20 to their age. that age gap is just not healthy. both groups will tend to influence each other negatively whether its just immaturity or situations that should never involve the youth. moving forward i can only see 2 options. 1) we split the community into age brackets or 2) we adopt a rated pg standard. obviously 2 isnt going to happen.

"If this is all it takes to wipe out the scene, then it wasn't worth saving." Stellar perspective. Too true. We'll see, but I think the core of the FGC is something that is birthed in the hearts of certain individuals who love to fight, and as long as there are fighting games out there, they will be played and people will likely discuss them and organize ways to get together. So the building blocks of the FGC are essentially immortal as long as fighting games exist.
@P0rk_Sinigang4 жыл бұрын
The FGC is, quite literally, the friends we make along the way. It's not about tournaments, it's about getting together to enjoy playing fighting games. So yes, the building blocks are very much immortal. We just need to carry on and not allow ourselves to fall back into the trappings of ignoring bad behavior so as not to rattle the birdcage.

Honestly, to me, there’s something genuinely heartwarming about seeing that JP is having the same mix of serious introspection and completely glorious shitposting that we’ve been having here. FGC has always transcended language barriers. I don’t think that the real, hardcore FGC will die. There’s just no way. We love these games too much for that, we love beating each other too much for that, and we love hanging out with each other too much for that. This community was _and is_ practically defined by being so full of passionate people who are willing to put in the work to build a community and maintain a community. Those are exactly the kinds of people it takes to heal a community, and we’ve got tons of them. We’ve always been grassroots at the core. I think that’s a massive part of why Big E-Sports has always been fundamentally different from us. Our roots are so strong. We’re just knocking some bad apples out of the tree, and we can even do some pruning, and maybe we’ll lose a few branches that we didn’t want to lose, but these roots are still strong. This tree is strong. That being said, on Fightcade today I did decline an ST challenge to play Windjammers instead. Whoops maybe we’re doomed, hahaha. Thanks for the video, Obama.

At the end of the day EVO was just a function. It doesn't matter if they rebrand or not because it's the people that attend and host the tournament that made up the core of EVO not any one person. Interesting retrospect seeing this take now instead of 2 years ago. It's like the FGC and the smash community took two completely different paths. FGC kinda kicked out everyone and rebuilt the whole thing while Smash outed everyone but never took action. At the current moment I've noticed an even bigger divide between FGC and Smash, both are still thriving but the state of them are wildly different. FGC is currently staying afloat and proving that they can still be big while being popular. Smash is just trying to avoid going into a deep underground locals with a big major in between. I am happy that they both managed to stay afloat today, just the boats are a bit different.

Also being an anonymous comment section is the same no matter what language, the individuals can say whatever they want with no fear of consequences, even a country like japan that cares so much about politeness and image would trow that away in the internet, its not surprise those comments are very similar to western social media..... I honestly think saying the fgc is dying is a bit too much, sure EVO was a big part of it but, with all of this recent effort from the devs to improve online play, the fighting game genre is going more in the direction of other game genres. sure we won't be like the old days anymore of getting up close and personal and talking trash and mashing buttons with friends, but In a way, the genre is moving towards a direction, I dont know if its forward, but its going. And as the genre goes, so does the community thats interested in the games still. We can always strive to be better and continue to play, eventually new events and tournaments that are amazing experience for players will rise and the FGC will follow. The FGC doesn't need EVO, it needs passion from its people, so that it can move on and grow.

I believe that EVO will for sure comeback next year though it will for sure be tough regaining trust . I want to believe what Obama said: that the FGC is bigger than this scandal. At the root of the community, it's about coming together and playing competitive fighting games and getting hype. But does this incident prove that this kind of corruption is inevitable when events and companies get big enough? Is it possible to create some kind of countermeasures? Do the issues run so deep that it's a problem with society at large? What can be done, and what should be done? I know that many people will have confident beliefs about the answers to those questions, I don't know if I would be confident in any of them. And that hurts.

Fighting games are a genre that doesn't change since the 90s, even the developers don't take it seriously if you see how online and visuals are poor. If the next games are not successful I think the genre is done for. I hoped for big improvements on it but the FGC wants that the games look archaic since it is how they remember in the arcades. But all lf these things about PC Culture and how emotional people are, fails to see that people are human, made mistakes, can learn and grow from them, and focuses only in the victim mindset (which never grows), this s*cks... 3- Sadly, after all these events, I'm 100% sure that Nintendo will never support the competitive scene, not only becuase of the family/friendly image, but because og the actions of key members of the scene. I don't play smash seriously, but I respect the dedication of the scene, it's a shame... 4- This cleance period its very interesting and well see the consecuences of it, but just like Obama said, What will they do to regain trust?, they will have to distance themselves from the EVO brand, creating a new brand and type of events...
