Nice footage... I went to DPRK in November and suffered from bad food poisoning from some fish I ate... I felt so sick, it just amplified the misery I felt around me and I couldn't wait to leave... I never thought I'd go there and was looking forward to it after years of watching videos like this one... Then I get sick! Nightmare! I have to say the food was horrible... I don't know if I would have tried the spicy dog soup if I had been well, probably not.. But some in my group liked it..

I can't believe that you say that "life has improved continually". The infrastructure in Pyongyang, which is the show-piece capital is outdated except for a few apartment complexes (Mansudae area). Compare this form of "progress" with that of South Korea...
@red_misha12 жыл бұрын
No, the DPRK is a mountainous country, and nearly all of its older buildings were destroyed during the war. Surviving buildings of cultural significance are preserved and well-maintained, while new modern buildings and housing complexes are also being built. Unlike New York, where Manhattan (which has problem in itself) is surrounded by Burroughs of decaying infrastructure and a stark contrast of economic conditions. All in all, life in the DPRK has been continually improving.

I live in Castaic a Village north of LA but we have over 14 Restaurants, Cafe's and Food counters in different Stores with a choice of Mexican, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Italian Restaurants, plus of course Old Style American Cafe's and a number of other Fast Food places. 10 minute walk we are in the country away from buildings near a beautiful large lake at the edge of the Mountains.

It's the capital of NK. A good question would be, where is the population? It looks nice and peaceful but there is no sign of happiness or communication. Reminds you a lot of Fahrenheit 451.
@gabadobe12 жыл бұрын
Okay - cool.....another thing - if you zoom into Pyongyang on Google maps you see that there are almost no cars in the streets - even big 6 or 8 lane roads - there is like one car for every ½ mile or so. So besides always dressing nicely the people in Pyongyang must also be very healthy people who prefer to walk instead of driving.....

I think you may not compare the situation in Korea with Germany. East Germans had a lot more information on the West as North Koreans have. East Germans could watch West German TV, and at least West Germans were allowed to visit East Germany and a few East Germans were also allowed to visit the West. Also, Western merchandise was available in East Germanyin special stores. North Koreans do not have all that.

Watch closely when they drive through a boulevard and you see some tiny trees that are green, blue, red, etc. Those are painted bushes because they can't even afford to water the grass or the plants. That's why almost everything in the in Pyongyang is covered up with concrete, and buildings, etc.

I'm not sure who you're even talking to now. I've already said that the principle of socialism is "From each according to his ability, to each according to his work," yet you continue to insist that no one receives anything in socialism. I've told you that socialism IS workers' control, yet you insist that socialism 'leads to' the opposite. I'm not going to continue this thread if you will continue to make such erroneous assertions.

Oh!!..; so i see it is normal for daily commuters to walk the streets, when all of the sudden they break out into a song and dance, performing the second act of high school musical lol. But i see what you mean, Pyongyang is just like any other city in any other country. People going to work, police patrolling the streets, cars driving by etc, is just like anywhere else. Still doesn't change the fact that DPRK is bizarre even compared to the sub- bearing standards of the Bermuda Triangle.

The buildings and the feel of the city remind me of Moscow and st. Petersburg. Some would see the architechture as depressing, but somehow I like the almost featureless colossal concrete buildings and empty 16-lane highways. Purely visually, it's quite serene and otherworldly. Of course, Russia is not like it anymore, and I like the new feel there too. I don't talk about ideology or living conditions here, just aesthetics.

New projects are being built in Pyongyang and throughout the DPRK (where possible) all the time (aquariums, modern housing, amusement parks, shopping centres, etc.), so I'm not sure how one could say "nothing has changed since the 1970s". One should also keep in mind that, whereas the Southern US-puppet state is continually pumped with capital by western corporations fuelled by cheap exploitable labour, the DPRK is heavily isolated and has no desire to sell out its people or its national pride.

North Korea has only 1/5 arable land, but they have plenty of minerals. Also, look at Japan with it's massive population and insignificant natural resources. Still it flourished for decades before the economy started to stagnate due to cheaper labour elsewhere. But the people are well off still.

There is no slave labour in the DPRK. They don't get 100% remunerated in cold cash, because much of their remuneration is received through numerous state benefits. The South has low cash wages, and neither compare to those of the US or western EU. But that's the fallacy here; you want to hold the DPRK to the same standards as those of a fully developed country. The DPRK is not a developed country. It's a country that faces unparalleled obstacles, politically, economically, and environmentally.

Well you only really see people in mass on the streets when there is some kind of anniversary, military parades, Kim's birthday, Kim's death, etc etc. Even the common NK's in Pyongyang have little money to go out with, so most stay at home. Only the higher elite class have the money or clout to do anything. You have to be from the right families to own a car, have a top notch apartment. Pyongyang is just a show place for Kim and his party elite.
