The best is the voluminous vaguery followed by complete specificity. I'm feeling a name of some sort...you know anyone with a name? Maybe its an N or M name...with some other letters too but definitely maybe an M or N.....could be someone that passed or still alive or hasnt bee born yet but definitely has a name of sorts. ....Oh you had a cousin named Maria? Yep thats her. She says she misses you so much and that she is so proud of all you have done and that she forgives you for not being there when she passed....you were there when she passed? Oh well, she says what she meant was that although you were physically there, mentally you had checked out to avoid the pain of her death. She's so funny and insightful...really sucks at conveying her name though, could only almost muster that first letter. Anyway, that will be $374 plus tax.

I have never in my life considered going to a psychic. However, when my sister died in May, I have in some of my most desperate periods of grief considered trying to use a Ouija board, lol. I can giggle about it now because I'm in an okay space but the fact that I felt that way without having even the smallest amount of belief in the ability to speak with the dead, makes me truly appreciate how people who DO believe can be taken advantage of this way. Grief is a powerful force. When we are particularly close with someone who's passed it feels as if a part of ourselves has also died. The void is all encompassing at times. If this lady did this for free, I would think she was such a kind person but to charge more than what a typical therapist would, is just shameful.

When I told him I wasn't, he said you're going to be and told me my beloved grandmother, who passed, had 2 children with her "waiting to come through." (10 yrs later, I still don't want kids). He told me my grandmother, who never met my then husband, loved him and how great he was and how lucky I was for having him. (I found out in the next few years he was on every online dating site and a serial cheater and divorced him. My grandmother would have hated him.) The reading made my choice not to have children and to end a bad marriage very difficult. When you are in a state of grief, looking for answers, it's devastating how you can be lied to.

These psychics are frauds, but there are a couple cases that are really unexplainable. First is Teresita Basa. She was a nurse that was killed, and did just what you joked about, she spoke to a man and solved her own murder. The case is mind boggling. The next case is Don Decker. His case is called the most authentic paranormal case ever, because so many witnesses seen it. The entire police department seen it, a restaurant full of people, multiple friend of his, multiple priest etc. Decker claims he was possessed by his grandfather, and he could make it rain inside. gain, several people seen him do it in multiple different buildings, including inside a jail. The last case is Pearl Curran. Curran claimed she was contacted through a spirit board, and the spirit told her to write books, and she wrote books about things nobody can figure out how she would have known. Those are about the only paranormal cases that make me wonder. 99% of paranormal cases are nonsense. But I think it could be possible that very very very very very few people may have some strange paranormal ability. But this woman ain't one of them.

I had a good friend who was distraught after her father's death, to the point that she went to see a famous medium, who appeared onstage in a giant stadium venue in LA filled with several thousand people. At one point, the medium said to the audience, "Someone here is grieving their father. He was a veteran, and they sleep with the flag from his funeral under their pillow." My friend actually *was* at that point sleeping with her father's funeral flag under her pillow for comfort...she spoke up, and the medium told her that her father was happy and wanted her to be happy. Her dad supposedly said he wanted her to move on and stop grieving. (Unfortunately, it seemingly never occurred to my friend that out of those thousands of people, there was almost certainly bound to be at least one person sleeping with a flag under their pillow for comfort...) Sounds all good and harmless, right? *Wrong!* My friend believed in the medium 100%, and began feeling intense guilt over her continuing feelings of grief about her father, because after all- her dad had told the medium that he wanted her to be happy, and she was letting her dad down by grieving and not moving on! IMHO, it actually made my friend feel *worse* by making her feel like she should've been skipping through the normal, natural grieving process, and she was letting her late father down by continuing to feel sad and miss him! It was incredibly damaging for my friend, even though technically the claims were all positive sweetness & light. Just one reason I think the toxic positivity of soi disant mediums & psychics can be more damaging than doing nothing. 🤬😡

I went to see one of her live shows back in the fall of 2019 in Bloomington Indiana and was sitting next to a woman who was sure what Theresa was saying was all about her. This woman was on the opposite side of the audience from where Theresa was being lead by spirit. This woman absolutely wouldn't sit down even when Theresa found the person she was lead to. Finally a staff member of Theresa went over and asked the woman to sit down and this woman did for about 10 seconds then she was up again insisting it was about her. I wonder if Theresa was on the wrong side of the audience because where this woman was sitting was a mirror image of where the other person was sitting. I saw the staff member speaking to security then security went to this woman and told her to sit but the woman refused and was escorted out of the auditorium. Whether this woman was a plant and whether Theresa was on the wrong side of the auditorium I have no clue. Witnessing this and being close enough to hear most of it left a lasting impression on me. I've questioned Theresa and her honesty ever since.

I'm going to try and address this sensitively. To others, I would say do what your mother did /after/ you see a grief counselor, a priest, those types of people who've studied and trained to help you deal with trauma. This kind of thing should be a very last resort because there isn't a shred of evidence it's legitimate. I'm glad your mother is better but there are many people who will try this as a means of dealing with their loss and so-called "mediums" keep taking advantage of them. This kind of thing should be used super carefully. And honestly I think it's a little ridiculous Caputo is as popular as she is, because it is so clearly a scam.

I use my gift in loving ways , in fact most of my clients don’t even know I am a medium, it has just been a blessing to me and I share my wisdom in quiet ways to allow people to know they are loved, what the eyes see is not reality and that truly there is no death. There are people out there who will make money, which is fine as many don’t mind paying. I prefer to be a working professional and serve in my own way. Judgement is easy. Always keep an open mind,you don’t have to believe but keep open minded and don’t judge. When we judge it blocks our own love on earth.

She described their conversation and said they had drank tea together. She said as I approached, grandpa said he must go and that he would see her soon. I get random messages for strangers. I give the message eagerly but I would never ask a thing in return if a deceased loved one wants to say something I think it's important to say it for them. They tend to get louder a d more insistent if I question them. Sometimes what they want me to say seems really off the wall but thankfully the receiver understood or recognized exactly what I was told to say

Dr. Grande is spot on with his analysis as always. I had a coworker who went to a psychic medium in order to connect with her deceased mother. Wouldn't you know it, her mother told her she was proud of her and forgave her for not being there for her while she was alive. The psychic also gave her information about a deceased pet which was very encouraging. Needless to say, my coworker was so thrilled and relieved to hear all of this great news!

I had a psychic reading once on the phone. She did not charge for her work She was a local person who was a Christian believer She couldn't cold read us or know anything about us yet she was incredibly accurate and described minute details. I think some people actually have this ability and some are shams. But I don't think trying to contact the dead is a good idea. I gave her no info about our family whatsoever..not even yes or no when she was correct about everything she said

I never really liked her because she is very vague! However, I do believe there are few people out there with "this gift". Once, I went with my cousin to have a reading. This man was really freaky NOT only with the dead people but about the future. I was about 16 years old and told me exactly who I was going to marry and described him physically. I never believed it until years later after I was already married I remembered his words!! With my cousin even predicted her husband's death. So, I do believe that some people can have this gift BUT people especially who seeking these people when they are desperate. This is dangerous because this is how they are taken advantage of. I think cultural background impacts our understanding of these kinds of things. Here in South Africa such practises of 'talking to the dead' or being 'visited by the dead' are very commonplace and it's pretty much accepted that there are people who have this "gift", it even has a name: 'ubizo' which means 'a calling'. There are apparently different types of these 'callings': some use it to heal, some use it to advise the living on behalf of the dead, some use it to tell the future, etc using various methods like throwing bones, reading water or using a whistle (to communicate with the dead). The people who practise this are officially initiated (through various rituals) into the 'practise' by an older mentor who also has this calling. But as with every single system on earth, it is open to abuse, and it's becoming more and more challenging to discern the sincerity of those who practise, especially when there's money involved. From a Biblical standpoint, the Holy Bible also tells us about clairvoyants, mediums, magicians, palm readers etc, meaning that they do exist. However, it goes further to warn us against consulting such people because consulting the dead or 'allowing' the dead to continue 'functioning' (participating in decision-making, giving advice, making demands, etc) on earth in a spiritual capacity is illegal spiritual practise and it is dangerous because we don't have enough knowledge or understanding of the spirits involved in these practises.

I once saw a documentary about a "medium", can't remember which one. But their staff revealed what went on behind the scenes. They said before the show, they asked guests if they wanted to fill out prayer cards so that people could pray for whatever issue they had in their life. Many people filled them out. But instead of mailing them off to a prayer group, they opened them all a read them. They picked out certain ones and through an ear piece in the medium's ear, they were able to communicate this info to the medium while he/she was preforming for the guests.

I think that as we have lost the support systems that we once had in extended families and organized religion, the death of a loved one has become harder to bear. This is why people have become so vulnerable to con artists like psychics and the rest. I'm not saying we all need to go back to church or move grandma inTo our homes, I think a lot of us are way past that. I just think we haven't found anything to replace the support those things offered and it has left us vulnerable.
@esteemedmortal59173 жыл бұрын
Yes, the ‘Ask a Mortician’ KZbin channel has many videos on how death has been outsourced to a few sectors in society (medical, funeral industry) so people don’t really ‘see’ or interact with death often (hopefully). The downside is that no one really wants to talk about it and so people are kinda left on their own to chart a path out of their grief.

It’s sad to hear that your first experience was with someone who you had your doubts about.. contrary to what Dr. Grande says and thinks there are people who have this gift, but their not going to help you because they can pick up what your feeling about them and their not going to waste their time. Just, always keep positive and maybe that will drawl someone to you that you get get some true advice from… I told my friends that Trump would not be reelected to office 2 years before he ran again..and that a friend of ours who has nasal cancer… that she would be fine and go back to work.. after her Chemo and healing.. she’s back to work and getting married soon.. that’s the difference..

Our loved ones in the afterlife can communicate with us through dreams. I've experienced this many times.. They are able to convey accurate messages... No need for mediums... Just be patient.. True messages from loved ones can come through when your mind is relaxed.. Like doing light gardening. Working on a hobby.. Etc.. You feel that *thought * which is not yours and when you think it over. You'll realize the message or thought you received makes sense in that it pertains to a present problem or doubt or issue.. Sometimes with humor only your departed loved one particularly knows...

I lost my Father when he was still young, 48, to Colon Cancer, and my Brother spends time, money, and hope seeking out messages from him through mediums and other similar things. He will tell me a message a "Medium" told him was JUST for me, his youngest child and daughter, and it upsets me bc I feel this preys on people's most basic and deepest desires, and it's not right bc even very logical ppl are willing to bend beliefs for something they WANT to hear so badly!! I like to think my Dad is in a Heaven/Paradise looking down on me, as I'm sure we all like to picture our loved ones who've passed, and I personally do believe in a Higher Power and a Life after Death in some form, but I DON'T believe in mediums and I think they prey on people at their most desperate times or their most vulnerable desires, and I appreciate the way you explain this and bring your witt and insight to this somewhat complex (to some people) and sensitive topic with your usual brand of intelligence, reasoning, and also witty humor thrown in here and there for good measure!!
