My little brother worked at Long John Silvers! I remember he had no money to buy Christmas gifts for me. I got the best present from him that year. It was four glass small plates with Holly. They gave them away for promotions👍. Still to this day I have them ☺️

Yes ours closed maybe 7 years ago so did the KFCnext door. Pissed me off we will never get another franchise restaurant in our county wehavemsybr 50 thousand I county. Mall is shit. Only Walmart and sfew restaurants by mall. Mcd. Taco bell. Arby's. Tore down BK years ago. Have an Arby's, Subway. Pizza hit which has gotten bad. Wendy's soggy burgers, a Bob Evans, an Eatn park a Pittsburgh based restaurant not all that. King restaurant. A couple nasty Chinese tests. A Italian rest but got bad when lazy son took over from father. That's about it guys.itsucks.oh yah a BK is bad. Item the YUM Brands. Called my bank to ask what a yum brand was on my statement. I figured it out. It was ljs or KFC. Mustabeen before Google got big cause customer service rep said we always wandered what YUM Brands was. Lol. We need sit-down steak house, chic fil a, a Popeyes, a LJS, KFC, maybe add a good sandwich shop like the one Actor Brad Garrett advertised, I would welcome a Dominoes. Had one25 years ago. Shit down but Dominoes has gotten real cardboard u tasting Lol. Only wal mart or another franchise grocery store. And Aldi's. No place to shop anymore. Our Walmart is ghettoashell. Always having police there forsholifters or drunk pple in store. Or no food on shelves. Never have the chibatta bread. One dayno frozen spinach. Then no roasts, no chicken I'll scarce. They say we going back food chain drama again. Ugh.

@@CharlesWhite-wh4cc I've never been to a Bob Evans restaurant they aren't out in the west, same with White Castle. Bob used to visit my dad often at our house when we lived back east. As a child, I always made fun of the discount. The joke was that their customers would never live long enough to claim the benefit. I absolutely LOVED their fish, but knew that it wasn’t very healthy, and would always have a stack of napkins to soak up all the grease. I would eat at LJS almost weekly with my dad in the years leading up to that 55 age group. He managed to survive to be 57, debunking my theory. ...so I was 2 years off.

For many years some friends and I went camping every summer in Michigan and we'd stop by the same Long John Silvers every year on the way to fill up our bellies because it would be late before we were set up and ready to make something to eat. It became a tradition to ring the bell on the way out, I'm sure the sight of 6 or 7 adult guys in a row enthusiastically ringing the bell on our way out the door was an odd sight to some.

My best friend, got to eat at all the fast food restaurants in town. His parents were young and cool, and he was spoiled. Now this is during the 70's - eating out was not too common for most families. He always brought souvenirs from his outings to school. Long John Silver's had these neat plastic, fork-like, utensils, that possessed pirates names and faces on them. He had a growing collection and I was jealous! I remember he gave me a few. Up until my mother passed in 2018, they were still in her utensils drawer! Anyone else remember those forks?

I recently went back to my hometown, I was actually expecting the LJS to be closed like so many. I was pleasantly surprised to see it not only still in business, but the building had been nicely remodeled on the outside. Seeing the photos of the restaurant in the 70's reminded me of eating in that one when I was a kid. My brother and I would always ask for "extra crumbs". Which looking back on it, probably wasn't the healthiest thing, since it was nothing but the extra fried bits of batter!

I remember my first ever trip to the big city, and one of the reasons I remember it is because we went to Long John Silvers. Growing up as I did in a town so small that we didn't have any franchise businesses except Winn Dixie and Tastee Freeze, I was thrilled to go to LJS because of the pirate books I had read, but also because I thought it sounded like something from England and I had read books like The Secret Garden and several Charles Dickins books as well. The smell of fried fish assailed my senses when I entered the store. I was hooked. The love affair did not last long since in the same store there was an Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips, and and they had one thing LJS did not. MALT vinegar. That was so English I just fell in love.

I remember in Nashville BEFORE the Shoney’s chains like Captain D’s opened there was this great place on Nolensville rd. Called H.R.Fish And Chips. They had the biggest pieces of fish you’ve ever seen and delicious batter chips served with them. Served in a replica news paper wrap and represented British Fish And Chips. They were the best. Then they got bought out by smaller multi-chains like Captain D’s, or Long John Silver and the fish size went away along with the fierce competition they would have been if they were allowed to continue.

Back in the day, I ate at Long John's Silvers and the food was very good. But, I liked Arthur Treachers the best. I live in the Detroit, Michigan area. There are only 2 Long John's Silvers left in the Detroit area. They are located on East 8 Mile Road just west of Ryan Road on the Warren/Detroit City Limits. And on Gratiot and Gunston in the Detroit City Limits. Right across the street from the Detroit Police Station, 9th Precinct.

We had an Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips in the Northeast Mall food court in Hurst, Texas. This was in the 90s before the mall reno and expansion. I remember they were good. Definitely better than LJS.

I worked for Jericho Corp. The corporate office was on the corner of Nichlosville and Southland Dr. In Lexington Ky. I was there when they opened their new Corporate Office off Tates Creek Road in Lexington, KY. I loved my job. I loved their fish. When I went home to NorCal, I would take my mom to LJS it was such a treat for her.

Worked here in Highschool '86-'88. I miss the pecan and lemon merengue pie!!! I also miss the shortening we used to fry in, as opposed to whatever they are using today as it leaves a film in your mouth. I also DO NOT miss the 2nd and 3d degree burns!!! Still have the scars 30+ years later!!!

I'm lucky, the LJS of my childhood is still there, the next town over, and still has the nautical feel, and the captain's bell. We go a few times a year to get good fish and the hushpuppies. My sister always prefers the chicken planks.

What a nice trip through nostalgia, thank you. My father worked at a Jerry’s restaurant in Hazard, KY when he was in high school, and it remained open through my childhood. We would go to the drive in stalls and just order fries but I can also remember them having awesome hot fudge cake too! I recall going to the Long John’s also in Hazard as a child and it was one of the original Cape Cod style buildings, but I remember the food being really good and of great quality. It’s too bad that that style went out of popularity as I thought it was way more “authentic” than the refresh.

Worked there in the early 90s. First job. My ( now wife today) got me a job there when we were 16. It was the best first job to have. They hired awesome people who actually cared about customers experiences. Even as teens, we worked hard there. Also, it was awesome as a kid to work the window in those stores ( not drive through which we didn’t have but the window behind the counter)….and stare at my future wife’s butt while day dreaming! Made $4.15 an hour but ate all the food there for free….had an awesome manager. In all seriousness, I worked there about a year and learned a lot about life and jobs and adulthood. Decades later I am a well respected and known executive at a big US biotech. I owe my beginnings to the lessons learned and first life experiences provided by this company. How weird right? Everyone starts somewhere.

Our family would go there on Sundays after church in the late 70's.We had the old style store with the "peir" out front. Every child got a paper hat .I remember the malt vinegar on the table and wondering why anyone would want that. It smelled bad. I would get the chicken with extra "crispies", and a root beer. It was a special occasion if I got the corn on the cob, drowning in butter.

All the LJS in the Memphis metro area closed about 10-15 years ago, thankfully there's still one in Dyersburg TN, my wife and make the drive up there about two-three times a year, it's way better than Captain D's long skinny fish sticks they call fillets. .
