My Great grandma is from Chad and was raised there I always wondered how she had hair so long I asked her and she said when she was young they were very natural and used natural sources I then asked her if it was possible for my hair to be that long she responded of course at this time she lived with us so she proceeded to use this technique and I have beautiful kinky hair like her I do this on my sisters hair and my cousin we have lovely hair my great grandma truly had the biggest impact on my life 💜I will do this on my own daughter once she is born in April 💜🎁🎊

I've always been curious as to why men of other races would jump at the chance to be with a Denise Katrina Mathews, or a Zoe Saldana, but never a Tisha Campbell or a Keysha Cole. I find the lack of grey hair to be extremely interesting. However, I found this video after watching several others on how black women can retain length, and grow waist length hair. After watching the videos and making sure my natural 4c hair stays moisturized, I am amazed by the fact that we can grow our hair just as long as other ethnic groups. Unfortunately, many of us were not taught the proper way to moisturize, deep condition, and retain length by finger detangling. This is by no means the fault of our mothers. They simply taught us what they were taught.

The reason why a lot of black women in the western world don’t have long natural hair like this as we should, is because of not only the chemicals that are in the shampoos we use but also because of the weather. If I leave my natural hair out, even in protective styles, the amount of breakage I get is unbelievable. Our hair isn’t built for cold climates- and then we are bashed for wearing braids/wigs/weave when in reality a lot of women are just trying to shield their hair from the polluted air and are just trying to grow their natural hair.

BASICALLY MOISTURIZE YOUR HAIR AND PUT IT IN A PROTECTIVE STYLE!! I shaved my head skin bald last year due to heat damage and breakage, took care of it, did protective styles, washed only once per week, and heavily used grease and leave in conditioners, my hair is currently at neck length in only 12 months. And no I’m not “mixed” or anything like that. I just took care of my hair and it grew, anyone can do it, it just takes patience.

@@brooke6300 YES! Blue magic Indian hemp, Maui moisture curl smoothie, and Shea moisture Jamaican black castor oil strengthen and restore leave in conditioner. When I put in the leave in conditioner and the curl smoothie I wear a heat cap for 45 minutes, then I apply my blue magic on the scalp. Repeat this once a week. Hope that helps you!

So in essence, stretched hair helps to reduce breakage because it doesn't get a chance to get tangled. So keeping their hair always stretched completely removes that risk. Many people have problems with length retention, so yes, it's really not about genetics. this video is really awesome, I feel bittersweet about watching it though. Agreed. Remember back when curly/Jerry curls was in fashion and black peoples hair grew so fast. They thought it was the perm but it just keeping it moisturised. I had my hair stretched in pigtails and my hair grew so fast. by hair only starting breaking because I let my hair down for bed. I thought it was the perm relaxer but it was not. I was just buying into another myth about perms. I will do the same again with my relaxed hair and keep it in pigtails while working out and in the villa.

I'm so thankful for youtube. My hair is growing longer now because I have been educating myself with these videos. We did not have this growing up in the 80's and 90's, so we didn't see how black women around the world grow their 4c hair. Growing up, I used so much alcohol-based spritz, perms with hot irons that fried my hair. I also detangled my hair like I was raking the yard. GUYS! I am American with very kinky 4C hair. I grew my hair a little past my waist using protective styling and only detangling w/my fingers. STOP saying that it's genetics and they have Arab mixed in them and that's why the hair is long. They told you in the video that is not the case. For those of you old enough to remember, when the Jeri Curl became popular in the 80's, most people that sported the look experienced a lot of hair growth - that was because the drippy hair products keep the hair moisturized and conditioned - to have the "wet" look and cause the hair to produce an elongated curl - you had to use the hair products daily. Ask your parents or grand parents if they used to wear a Jeri Curl back in the day!!! Keeping the hair moisturized prevents breakage and helps you retain hair length, i.e., hair growth! Black people's hair grow like everyone else's - the trick to long hair is hair growth retention - keep the hair from breaking off!

The basic concept is to moisturize your hair and keep it braided to lock moisture in, u dont need their chebe powder, they just use that because thats all they have access to, while here in america we have a whole bunch of oils and hair products
