Those metal filters can be purchased new as your tractor was one of the most common and popular for many, many years. There will never be problems getting parts for your 8 or 9 N.

Well I don’t know if anyone has mentioned that it sounds like you might have an exhaust leak you might need a new manifold. Check the exhaust port on #4 cylinder the one where it’s straight up from the muffler this cylinder gets all the heat so sometimes the manifold gasket starts leaking and the manifold gets burned away which is an easy fix but sometimes instead of the manifold burning away the block starts burning away I actually have a tractor that I have to put JB weld on the block and then I put a new gasket on while it is still a little soft and then I put the new manifold on but I have to keep an eye on it because it only lasted for 10 years and I don’t use it that much. Also I wanted to suggest that you check your steering box for oil because that’s another thing that the 8N’s are famous for leaking and the bearings are quite fragile inside there. You should also determine whether you have a thermostat or not if you do it’s inside the top radiator hose I always put a temperature gauge on my 8N’s I put a 1.5 inch brass insert just below the thermostat with a threaded brass threaded fitting soldered in for the temperature gauge and then I mount it where I can see it. I would suggest you use the 160 degree thermostat especially if your using it in summer bush hogging or plowing because the 180 degree burns is to hot in my opinion. Lastly I would encourage you to get the I&T shop manual it’s well worth it! 😀🇨🇦

I also would suggest that you have somebody take a look at the head gasket.

Start putting some anti seize on every bolt might help out later on down the road.

Good job! BTW, you don't need to replace that mesh air filter insert. You can swish it around in a small container of gasoline to clean it to near perfection. It should last another hundred years at least. You might want to consider changing the transmission oil too. That oil could have been in there for decades, since most people don't bother ever changing it.

Thanks for the tip! The transmission oil is next but looked pretty clean when I bought it.

Any tractor store or farm sales can assist you. The 8 N as well as the 9 N is still a very popular Tractor. 26:13

Looking good! Greetings from Ontario man. All i had to think while watching that video, is the intake pipe in completely backwards? Was just thinking it could run behind the exhaust then up with the other shorter bend. I am sure you got it dialled in proper however just what i was thinking. She’s purring along nice now.

Oil cup might need a gasket so it doesn't leak oil.

I’ve used anything from 10w40 to transmission fluid and wd40 . Any type of new/ clean petroleum product will work better than dirty old oil.

Yeah, for sure don't spend 10 minutes first learning about how it works or how to maintain it, just jump in there and rip the metal and tear things apart. The breadth of knowledge available at your fingertips is of no value to you.
