A tip, to make sure you tap is perfectly strqight, after chamfering the hole, chuck up the tap in the drill and turn it in by hand using the key to give you leverage until it is deep enough to b sure it can't wobble anymore, Nice job.

That is a nice idea. but mostly I do that by hand and check the angle with a square . The old boss I had during mechanic aprenticeshit said I have a square in the eye..... but maybe he ment I am to lazy to use the drill stand 🤣🤣

That is the perfect position for the touch hole, I think most builders put the hole too low, but where you have it gets the most flame from the flash pan, you would have found it much easier to tap square with the tap held in the chuck, with the vice clamped down you can turn the tap in exactly on the same line as the drill hole, I just use a length of silver steel that fits in the chuck key hole. Almost there now, and it is looking good !

That is a realy good idea. I will try it next time. Than the tap will be exactly 90° in all directions.

It really makes getting the tap dead square in the hole, I just turn the chuck with the silver steel in one of the chuck key holes, plenty of lube makes it an easy job to get right first time.

To me this idea is new . The next projekt to test it will follow soon ;-))Hopefully I can get all the parts I need and nothing is out of stock that time. Do you have any good suplier here in europe like Track of the wulf in US ?
@453421abcdefg123456 жыл бұрын
No I have not found a European supplier, I either make from scratch, or buy the major parts from USA, the style is quite limited because of that, so if you want to reproduce some obscure style, you have to make things yourself, which is not too hard on these very crude firearms .

next a swivel breech rifle is on the plan. Locks and barrels I will order from us the rest will be handmade. The style should be moravian or early colonial. That will be most interesting to me ;-)

why did you counter sink the touch hole...
@homemadehistory75373 жыл бұрын
The berillium bronce liner has a rimm at the outside that will need a counter sink and than it is much easier to cut the tread. 😁

"Ach du lieber, mein freund"! "Sprechen sie Deutsch"??? "Wie geht es dir"? "Verstehst du"? How is mein German? Very glad you used the "screw-out" type touchhole liner. If you forget to load a powder charge, at least you can unscrew the liner & put some powder behind the patched ball to hopefully shoot it out! Some builders use a "permanent liner" - no way to really get any powder behind the ball! Like your "accent" - I get tired of hearing the same old "generic sterile English"!! "Danke dir"! "Solange"!!! "Gesundheit" und pass da LUTEFISK und VEINERSCHNITZLE und SAURBRAUTEN poleaze! "Mr Thickey has schpoken"!!!
