Long's Peak's "Narrows" - A path along exposed ledges near 14,000 feet

My climb along the "Narrows" section of Long's Peak's Keyhole route on September 24, 2019. It is a dangerous stretch near 14,000 feet involving class 3 climbing and considerable exposure, but beautiful and fun nonetheless. No, and actually I don't know if one was present. These days, I see them on some of the summits, and not on others. I don't know how well they are maintained now.

I love this mountain! I wish more people would watch videos like this before they go. I’ve seen people on longs without any bags, proper gear thinking it’s a simple day hike.

I would have to concur. I think that is probably one of the main reasons why there have been quite a few adverse events on the mtn.

Other than the rockfall potential and some loose footing in the “trough” it’s really not very difficult or dangerous under dry conditions. My first and favorite of the 16 I’ve completed.

Yeah - it isn't generally, objectively speaking. But sometimes people make it harder than it ought to be.

Thoughts on boots for this route? & helmet or none?

A helmet is definitely advisable for this, particularly since falling rock is a hazard - especially in the trough section. And I would say any sturdy pair of ankle-supported hiking boots with good traction should suffice in dry conditions. But if ice or snow is present, traction accessories could become necessary.

Your video quality is very good. I'm curious, what camera did you use, any particular camera settings worth mentioning, was camera chest mounted, did you do any post production? thanks

Thank you....my camera for this stretch is a go pro hero 7 silver, set on just the regular video setting (not 4k), chest-mounted. I didn't do anything to the video in terms of enhancement/effects, etc. - it's just the raw footage as it was recorded.

The qualities I want are light weight, good fit and high ankle coverage. Lately I've been wearing Salomons - they seem to do well for me.

I'm not positive this is what you're talking about, but at about 5:29 through 5:34 there is a piece of rectangular wood fastened to a rock but you can't see the front of it. It is a red sign that reads "Keyhole route" and has an arrow pointing back in the other direction. It is mostly intended for people descending back the other way.

It could depend on one's comfort level, but basically I would agree. For the most part it is plenty wide enough to walk along.
