More and more digitally connected devices are added to the electric grid each day-from smart thermostats and kitchen appliances to solar panels, transformers, and smart technologies for enhanced grid monitoring and control. This rapid scale-up in digital grid-connected devices, coupled with more diverse stakeholders and a wide-reaching global supply chain, adds complexity to our energy grid.
In a new Long Story Short Video, senior cybersecurity researcher Zoe Dormuth discusses why we need a secure energy system supply chain and the initiatives NREL is contributing to-including the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response's Cyber Testing for Resilient Industrial Control Systems (CyTRICS) program-that are helping secure the grid.
