like your rig. wish mine had the ramx. i have an old town flatback with the sps small kit on a 6.5hp. i’ve done a lot to mine, but i’m always looking for ideas. 2 things i’ve done a little different. i used the strap and hook off a regular ratchet strap and made a tiller catch. it’s way easier than your carabiner and wire rig. second thing i’ve done is add canoe float pods on the outside of the transom. i taped in a single cleat at the bottom of the transom and attached 2 boat fenders on the single cleat then tied the tops off at the corners. it makes them v shaped on the outside of my transom but it’s helped. i was rolling down current and came around a blind corner to a tree across the river. when my canoe went up on the tree, me and the motor being pushed by current really went down. i had only an inch or two above water at the top of the transom with current flowing around me. current was trying to come in. but it made me try to figure out canoe float pods. i also had my rig sink. i had weakened the hull by dragging it everywhere then slapped the mud motor on it. i had alot of flex in my hull till one day it caught the right stump and gouged through the bottom. i almost scraped the boat but i decided i could fix it. i found some 1/8 in thick hdpe sheets of plastic to go along the bottom and i took some galvanized metal screen lath to put along the floor on the inside of the canoe. then i got some marine pop rivets and added a 1/8 in sheet of new plastic to my hull. the metal lath held silicone and doesn’t allow flexing to open it up. i also added an aluminum rib between the middle and back seat where i’m always standing to add extra rigidity. it’s way sturdier now!

Sounds like a hell of a rig now. Thanks for the tips. The float pods are an excellent idea for the exact reason you stated. Sounds like you have quite the adventures in yours.

Slap foam on the sides. Will not sink and will improve stability.
