I cloned the 1 TB primary drive in 11 minutes and 50 seconds. It's been a pleasure transferring files at USB C speed. Over the years I have had several SSD drives suddenly fail. Read this, it's gonna help you! I have 2 things to point for you since I'm blind and video isn't a thing for me. 1. Checking for updates. I do this at least once per day for both Android and windows. For the best and to make sure you got the latest things installed, write update in the start search bar and click on check for updates. This'll make sure you get all available patches. Yes, the problem can and will be fixed, if not already with Windows 2004. 2. Audio. As a music producer and an audio experimented user, I suggest you don't use any headset microphones to input audio. Even the builtin mic is better at del. To change audio device, type sound into the start search bar and click on sound settings. Go to recording tab and choose your internal mic as an input device. This will help a lot. Do this after connecting the headset so their mic is seen as active. Happy to help you and I'm happy because I see a girl with a windows ultrabook. Also, thanks for all these details about the laptop, I'm also thinking to pick it out. I need a lot of good resources for good audio edit and I heard, also on youTube that it's sound is very good and reflects the bitrate difference so great. Thanks again!

FYI: For the audio switching issue, you don't need to go all the way into the control panel to switch the default audio playback device. If you click on the audio icon on the bottom right and then click on the title in the slide-up popup menu, it should give you an option to select a different audio output device. It's weird that Windows doesn't detect this when you try to use the microphone... Maybe the software is detecting that the current device doesn't have a microphone and is using the built-in microphones in the laptop, so it doesn't switch to the output device with the actual microphone? 🤷♀️ Your guess is as good as mine.

Setting a 4K screen to 1080p does not really help battery life. The higher power draw of the 4K screen is due to the much smaller pixels of the panel itself which restrict the backlight more. Therefore the backlight needs to be much brighter to achieve the same perceived brightness for the user.

My biggest gripe was how the screen color/balance would sometimes change, depending on the app you're using. (Just Josh is the only reviewer I've seen that called this out). If you're using one app for a bit, and then switch to something like Outlook, it's like the whole screen has this whitewash over it for 30 second and then it seems to correct itself. This happened for me on both the 4k model I initially purchased, and the FHD+ model I got second (in hopes of much better battery life, but it wasn't as dramatically different as I'd hoped). I'm in my early 40's, and perhaps my eyes are starting to change and are more sensitive, but overall it just made my eyes tired and I would get frustrated using the Dell's screen for long - would switch back to my monitor. I kept blaming it on my bad eyes. Then, I tried the new MacBook Pro, and realized it wasn't the fault of my eyes. I ended up returning the Dell and keeping the MBP for a variety of reasons. For me it was the right decision because I love using MacOS and hadn't had a Mac for several years. I didn't realize how much Windows pisses me off until I had a Mac again. /// All that said, the XPS 9300 is by far my favorite Windows laptop I've tried, and I tried a lot in the last 6 months. I bought and returned all of the following: Lenovo C940 (just didn't feel snappy next to the others), latest XPS 2-in1 (keyboard sucks), Spectre X360 4k OLED (had a hardware hinge issue), MacBook Air (too weak), XPS 9300 4k and the FHD+ model.

I have the previous gen XPS (9560).. Love this thing. But damn the new gen is sexy. Incidentally my current one has a lot small defects (all very common hardware faults with that gen). Thanks to my country's customer protection laws I could in theory demand to swap it out with the 9300 instead of having it repaired (I'd get a new machine anyway because of the sheer number of issues). I'd just have to pay the difference. So I'm trying to justify paying an extra 500 bucks (equivalent) vs getting a new machine of the old one for free. I'm REALLY tempted. I'd personally always go for the FHD model because of the enormous impact on battery life from the 4K, and on a pretty small screen it doesn't really pay off imo. Same with i5 vs i7. If you're generally running a heavy CPU load, an i7 will be more energy efficient. For more typical use, the i5 will be more modest. Even when running several processes in SPSS, having two instances of opera with 20ish tabs each, listening to music and editing a formula-heavy work document simultaneously, I rarely cross 30-40% CPU load.

Just wanted to know your opinion on one thing. The one thing we find everywhere we read a review is the lack of I/O ports in XPS 13 esp usb A considering that many devices still connect using that. How has that affected you while using XPS 13?
@graceytech34624 жыл бұрын
It hasn't bothered me too much because I have a lot of Bluetooth devices - head phones, mice, keyboard. I prefer this because I don't like having wires crisscrossing all over my desk. As such, I haven't really been bothered by the lack of I/O. A lot of my newer devices are also using USB C as many companies have joined the bandwagon by now - this is the trend and will be pushed even more firmly in the future. If you are still using USB A, there is a bundled USB-A to USB-C adaptor that comes with the laptop. This has been sufficient for my only USB, which is USB-A. You can find dongles with several USB-A ports that will plug into USB-C, but it will set you back around $XX in Australia.

People buy macbook because good design. But then realise apple more closed ecosystem. Macbook line up become boring. Apple remove all the ports. Many people dislike new macbook keyboard too, so they prefer stick with old macbook

I see that you sometimes use CAD software and Adobe Premier. How much heat was produced when you run each of that app? I mean, did it get hotter than Macbook or not (I have MacBook but want to swap it with others since I can't stand the heat).
@graceytech34624 жыл бұрын
It wasn't that hot for me (I'll make a video about this) but I don't have a MacBook so I can't make a direct comparison.

So the machine 'died' after 2 days? Wow. Not flash. The xps 15 might have heat issues... I am waiting on more xps 15 reviews. About the bluetooth microphone issue, I have the same issue with an older HP. So I figure it is a Windows 10 issue.

Do you have trouble seeing the keys at night with the backlight on? Is it harder to see because of the white keys?
@graceytech34624 жыл бұрын
Not at all. When it's very dark (no lights on in the room), the white keys just become black essentially and all you see is the lit-up letters and the edges of each key. When you are in a mid/dim light setting the contrast between the white key and the letters (which appear black) is great. I have never felt that the white keys made it harder to see. It's just the same as if I had a black keyboard imho.

Laptop battery life is bad anyways, if it can get 4 to 5 hours its actually pretty good. The laptop with longest battery life i owned so far is actually a pretty old laptop. Until now, it can still get 6 to 7 hours battery life at least with normal use. And thats the Acer S7 (i7, never own a laptop with processor thats i5 lol)
